Discover the ultimate Baldur's Gate 3 Necromancer build, combining Wizard and Spore Druid for a minion-heavy, melee-focused playstyle. Optimize spells, gear, and feats.
Walkthrough
- 1Multiclass your levels as follows: 6 Necromancer Wizard and 6 Spore Druid.
- 2Prioritize going Spore Druid first to access Create Undead, spare zombies, and a more effective melee wizard playstyle. Alternatively, start as a Wizard for a ranged playstyle with Ray of Sickness.
- 3The build will be consistent by level 12, partway through Act 3, regardless of your starting class.
Tips
- At level 6 Necromancer Wizard, you gain improvements to create undead spells. At level 6 Spore Druid, Fungal Infestation allows you to create an additional undead foe.
- You can have up to four fungal zombies, each dealing 5-15 damage. They act as excellent action sponges and provide free damage if they survive.
- Fungal zombies have a cheat death ability, surviving the first killing blow by remaining at 1 HP.
- The Circlet of Bones headpiece grants resistance to allied undead, including regular and fungal zombies.
- The Sporekeeper chest piece can grant Haste to all your minions.
- Do not learn Animate Dead at level 5 Wizard, as it is learned at level 6 Necromancer and level 5 Spore Druid.
- Avoid learning Gaseous Form or Bone Chill as a Wizard, as they are auto-learned from Spore Druid. Respec if you learn them on Wizard.
- Vampiric Touch is a third-level Necromancy spell that deals 3d6 damage and heals you for half the damage dealt. It can be recast for up to ten turns and used while in Wild Shape.
- Ray of Sickness is a good ranged damage option, especially when upscaled with the Staff of Cherished Necromancy in Act 3.
- Bone Chill deals damage and prevents healing, useful against enemies like the Absolute in Act 2 who use Lay on Hands.
- Shillelagh, a Druid Cantrip, allows you to use your Wisdom modifier for melee attacks, preserving spell slots in Acts 1 and 2. It can synergize with Broodmother’s Necklace for Vampiric Touch heals.
- Animate Dead is learned at Level 5 Spore Druid or Level 6 Necromancy.
- Create Undead is not directly available with a 6-6 level spread, but a ring in Act 3 provides it once per long rest.
- Danse Macabre is obtained by reading all three pages of the Necromancy of Thay in Act 1, then solving the Elminster puzzle room in the Sorcerer’s Vault at Sorcerer’s Sundries in Act 3. This spell summons six exploding ghouls.
- Consider spells like Heat Metal for specific encounters, such as Steel Watchers in Act 3.
- You can learn additional spells from scrolls up to third-level spells, as your maximum Wizard level is 6.
