Character Creation Guide: Race, Class, Details

Create your perfect character in baldurs gate 3: choose Origin, Race (Elf, Tiefling, Drow, Human, Githyanki, Dwarf, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Halfling, Gnome, Dragonborn), Class, and more.

Origin: Decide whether to play an Origin character with a fleshed-out story and unique dialogue, or create your own custom character. Your choice affects dialogue options and voice-over narration. You can also select your character's background (e.g., Noble, Acolyte, Criminal, Sage, Soldier) which impacts inspiration points and dialogue. This is also where you name your custom character.

Race: If creating a custom character, select from a wide variety of races, each offering racial traits, passive bonuses, and unique story interactions. Some races have sub-races with different lore, dialogue, and attributes.

Appearance: Customize your character's look with various skin colors, hairstyles, voice actors, makeup styles, and tattoos.

Class: Choose from 12 available classes. Some classes, like Paladin and Sorcerer, have subclasses available from the start, while others unlock later. Some classes allow you to select starting spells, cantrips, or instruments. Fighting styles and starting gear also vary by class.

Skills: Review and potentially adjust your character's skills, proficiencies, spells, and cantrips based on your race, background, and class choices.

Illithid (Second Character): Create a second character that will appear in certain story cutscenes and dreams throughout the game.
