Baldur's Gate 3 features a variety of classes and subclasses, with some mechanics homebrewed from the 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons ruleset. Multiclassing is also available with fewer restrictions than in 5E, allowing for unique character builds and powerful combos.

Note that some class and subclass abilities differ from their 5e counterparts. For example, the Thief's Fast Hands perk in BG3 grants an extra bonus action, whereas in 5e it allows for Sleight of Hand and Trap Disarm as bonus actions.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Multiclassing Explained

Larian has removed Ability Score checks for multiclassing, offering more freedom. Players can combine base classes with other classes' spells or subclass passives without worrying about racial builds or ability score modifiers. This allows for creative combinations, such as a Warlock gaining the Champion's Action Surge for an extra Eldritch Blast per turn, or a Sorcerer multiclassing into Thief Rogue to gain an extra bonus action for Quickened Spell Metamagic.
