Navigate the Old Sycamore Caves' Kobold section in Pathfinder: Kingmaker. This guide covers traps, illustrated book encounters, loot, and combat strategies against Kobolds and creatures.
Walkthrough
- 1Make your way to the southeastern corner of the Old Sycamore area to find the Kobold mines. Ensure you have light sources equipped or use Light spells due to the darkness.
- 2If you are hostile towards the Kobolds, you may need to clear out guards before entering. Inside, confront a foursome of Kobolds on abandoned mining platforms to the east. Loot a crate with a Perception 12 check in the southeastern end of the cavern.
- 3If you are friendly with the Kobolds, approach a Kobold Gatekeeper to the west. He can lead you to the chief and inform you about a destroyed passage to the Mite caves and the presence of "angry mite bugs" and "wild bugs" below.
- 4Follow the Kobold Gatekeeper down a tunnel, disarming traps along the way. Save your game before attempting to spot traps with a Perception 18 check and disarm them with a Trickery 18 check. Save after each successful disarm.
- 5After clearing several traps, the Kobold Gatekeeper will leave you. Continue down the tunnel until you find a hatch on the floor. A Kobold Archer will be pacing beyond it.
- 6Interact with the hatch to trigger an Illustrated Book episode. You have three options:
- 7Pass a Trickery 14 check to cross safely.
- 8Choose "…surged forward, paying no heed to the dangers surrounding us!“ to fall through the hatch. This leads to difficult encounters without rest and no clear route to safety.
- 9Choose "…decided not to push our luck and retreated.“ to delay the decision.
- 10It is recommended to save and attempt the Trickery check, as there is nothing to gain from falling or retreating.
- 11Upon successfully crossing the hatch, you will earn 90 XP.
- 12In the cavern beyond, turn north to fight Giant Spiders. Continue north, disarming more traps (Perception 18, Trickery 18). Search scaffolding to the west for a pile of rocks (Perception 6) hiding an Ancient Rostlandic Coin.
- 13The path splits into three: west (wooden ramp to scaffolding), east (downhill), and north (another chamber).
- 14Head north first to a chamber with Giant Centipedes. Defeat them, loot a sack, and observe a chasm to the northwest.
- 15Backtrack south to where you fought the Giant Spiders. Head down a ramp to the east, being wary of a trap near the bottom (Perception 18). Disarm it (Trickery 18).
- 16Continue into a cavern with more Giant Spiders. Exterminate them.
- 17Proceed into a large northern chamber filled with Kobolds. If at war, they are spaced out, allowing you to fight small groups of about four. Prioritize rushing annoying Kobolds (Alchemists, Bone Shaman, Flame Shaman) even if it provokes an Attack of Opportunity.
- 18If Kobolds are allies or after they are dealt with, loot a crate and sack near a Kobold shrine (look for a large, reptilian skull on the eastern wall), and another sack on the western wall.
- 19Return to the southern edge of the cavern and go down a tunnel to the east, which ends in another fork guarded by Giant Spiders. Exterminate them.
- 20Continue east to a dead-end and loot a sack with meager treasures.
- 21Backtrack to the fork and proceed west.
