Troll Clearing

Learn how to navigate the Troll Clearing in Pathfinder: Kingmaker, including options for ambushing boars or wisely avoiding the area for better rewards.

Alright, so you're heading into the Troll Clearing. This spot is way out in the southeastern part of the Southern Narlmarches, and it's part of that big 'Swamp Witch's Hut Expedition' quest. We're taking a bit of a scenic route here to uncover more of the map and save the tougher fights for later, so from the Kobold Camp, we'll be heading Southeast, then North, East (following the Murque River south), South, Southwest, and finally East again to reach it.

When you get to the Troll Clearing, you'll get a little story event. You have a couple of choices here. You can try to set up an ambush. If you pick the option 'Having prepared our ambush, we waited,' and then choose 'We continued waiting' three times, you'll get a chance to make a Lore (Nature) check at DC 20. If you nail it, you'll catch a boar. It's not a troll, obviously, but it's pretty good – you'll get 6 Camping Supplies and Rations, which is super useful, plus some experience.

On the other hand, you can totally skip the waiting game. If you choose 'We made note of the place so we could return later,' you'll just leave. The game rewards you with some experience for being smart and not wasting your time. You can even do this after you've started waiting for the trolls – just pick the option to leave, and you'll still get the XP. If you decide to leave without waiting, you'll get 90 XP.
