Materia Guardian Boss Guide

Phase 1: Grounded Combat
The Materia Guardian starts on the ground with various attacks. Most can be blocked, but Leaping Crush and Seizing Claw are unblockable (signified by a red triangle with an exclamation point) and require dodging. Claw Swipe deals minor damage. Mucous Jet is a sweeping liquid attack that deals moderate damage, lessened by blocking. Dual Tail Lash is a backflip tail attack dealing moderate damage, blockable. Mucous Discharge is an easily avoidable glob of mucous. Horn Rush is a charge attack you can dodge or block; run away from it when it attempts this.

Phase 2: Ceiling Assault (60-70% HP)
The Materia Guardian climbs onto the ceiling. It may use Mucous moves or Stonefall, dropping boulders on a character. Target one of its legs. If Sephiroth hits a leg with a Fire spell, it will break, pressuring the boss and knocking it to the ground. Use Cloud’s Focused Thrust during this pressured state to build the stagger gauge.

Phase 3: Mako Absorption and Trine (30-40% HP)
The boss jumps onto broken pipes and begins absorbing mako. A tutorial for Synergy Abilities will appear. Use the Synergy Ability Double Helix to make the Materia Guardian fall back into the arena. If it absorbs mako again, it will unleash its special attack, Trine, an electrified projectile dealing heavy damage. Cloud's Limit level may increase after using Double Helix, granting access to Ascension. Sephiroth may gain unlimited MP.
