Master Folios in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth! Learn how to earn Skill Points (SP) from leveling and Manuscripts, and unlock powerful Synergy Abilities and passive boosts.

Folios in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are basically skill trees for each character. You'll get introduced to the idea early on in Kalm. The core concept is simple: as you level up, you earn Skill Points (SP) that you can spend to unlock skills, kind of like the Sphere Grid in Final Fantasy X, but much simpler. Each character earns SP on their own and has their own Folio filled with "Skill Cores." When you spend SP to unlock a Skill Core, new paths to other cores might open up, though it's not always clear which ones connect until you unlock them.

These Skill Cores can do all sorts of things, like unlocking new Synergy Abilities and Synergy Skills, letting you cast elemental magic freely, or just giving you good old passive stat increases.

Manuscripts Explained

Besides leveling up, you can find [Manuscripts] through various activities. These give you a permanent SP boost when you get them, and each character has their own unique set of Manuscripts:

To actually customize your Folios – that is, buy and refund Skill Cores – you'll need to visit a Maghnata Books store. Luckily, these stores have mobile branches all over the place, so you can't really customize while you're deep in a dungeon, but any other time is fair game. You can refund spent SP for free anytime you visit a Maghanata Books location. Just hold down the [refund button prompt] while selecting the Skill Core you want to change, and you're good to go. Since there's no penalty for experimenting, don't be afraid to tweak your Folios based on the situation. Fighting an enemy weak to fire? Unlock Wildfire Skill Cores for free fire magic casts. Need to use specific party members? Make sure their Synergy Abilities and Skills are unlocked.

You can earn Manuscripts by completing side quests and other optional content, which permanently boost a character’s SP.

Party Level and Folio Customization

Besides Skill Points and buying adjacent Skill Cores, there's another requirement for Folio customization in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth: Party Level. The more heroic deeds you do, challenges you beat, and the better your group works together, the higher your Party Level will climb. This levels up like anything else – by earning XP from your actions. Many Skill Cores are locked behind Party Level requirements, and most of the Skill Cores in a Folio won't even show up until you've increased your Party Level! This acts as a progression gate, tied to main quest and side quest completion, among other ways to raise Party Level. Generally, the further you get in the game, the higher your Party Level will become, and the more Skill Cores you'll be able to access.
