You unlock the Run Wild minigame as part of the main story in Costa Del Sol. Initially, you can play two minigames with Cloud: Pirate Rampage and Card Carnival. After completing these, you gain control of Aerith and Tifa, who have four more minigames. Run Wild is one of these, started by speaking to an NPC on the western side of Costa Del Sol.

Run Wild features Red XIII on a soccer field, with the objective to shoot the ball into the opponent's goals. Each team starts with five points. Scoring a goal decreases the opponent's score by one. The team with the most points when time expires wins.

Controls: Square to shoot, X for a lob shot, R2 to dash, and L2 to jump. The initial minute has only one ball. After one minute, a second ball is added, requiring a more defensive approach.

During the game, teams can either be 'running wild' (more aggressive) or 'taking a breather' (move slower, leave goal open). Utilize these states to your advantage.

Run Wild Minigame Rewards

To get the Companion Card for Aerith and 2x Ethers, you need to place second. Tying for first place yields an Emerald, while first place earns the Silver Collar, a new weapon for Red XIII.

Run Wild: Time Trial

Unlocked after completing the Rendezvous in Costa del Sol quest (Chapter 7), Time Trial pits you against the clock. The goal is to shoot numbered balls into their respective goals in numerical order (1 through the last ball). Completing this in under 2 minutes and 30 seconds is required for first place.

The darker grey ball can be difficult to see. Line up your shots carefully to avoid wasting time. The first four balls are straightforward, but the fifth onwards introduces obstacles. For the fifth ball, posts will appear and disappear in front of the goals. Use the Lob Shot (X button) to get over these posts. The final ball has a small wall obstacle; use the Lob Shot from a distance to clear it.

Time Trial Rewards

  • Third Place: 2x Mixed Hi-Potions
  • Second Place: Oldebeast Bracelet
  • First Place: Platinum Earrings
