Best Ways to Farm AP for Materia

Before grinding AP, it's best to complete the main story for an AP boost. Difficulty doesn't affect AP gain, so playing on Easy is recommended. Two key items can significantly speed up AP grinding: AP Up Materia, which doubles AP when linked to another Materia, and the Chocobo Armband, which triples AP for Materia equipped on it. Combining both can yield up to six times the AP for linked Materia, making it ideal for Support Materia that require extensive leveling.

Corel Fiend Intel Method

This method requires Barret as the party leader, equipped with First Strike Materia and Elemental/Ice Materia linked in his weapon. Head to the Corel Region, specifically the beach outside Costa del Sol, and find Fiend Intel 2: Seahorsing Around. Engage the Heliopora Terpsicolt enemies, which are weak to ice. Start the battle, use Overcharge to gain ATB, and then unleash Maximum Fury. On Easy difficulty, this should defeat all enemies quickly. Each battle yields 24 AP and is relatively fast, with a short cooldown before retrying.

Gongaga Grinding Method

This method, ideally using Aerith due to her high magic stat, focuses on the Quake spell. You'll need two Petrify Materia from Chadley in the Gongaga Region and one from the Cosmo Canyon Region, along with Poison Materia. Equip First Strike and Magic Up Materia. ATB Boost can be used for extra ATB at the start. Pair one Petrify Materia with MP Absorption, another with Magnify, and the third with Magic Focus. Mastering MP Absorption is beneficial. If available, HP-to-MP Materia can provide a large MP pool. Travel to the Cliffside Storehouse in the Gongaga Region. Engage the four sets of enemies in the area. Use ATB Boost if necessary, then cast the highest-level spell. After defeating all sets, save and reload to respawn enemies.

Queen Bee Method

Potentially the most efficient AP grinding method, this involves the My White-Haired Angel quest in the Nibel Region during Chapter 12. Focus on defeating the Queen Bee's Guard Bees, which will continuously spawn more. Avoid killing the Queen Bee herself, which is easier on Easy difficulty. Non-Cloud party members can use Enfeeblement Rings, and Cloud's charged normal attack can draw bees without harming the Queen. This method allows for continuous grinding, but defeating the Queen Bee requires restarting. Be mindful of potential poison status effects from the bees and ensure you have healing capabilities.
