Learn how to manage your Makka effectively in Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster. This guide covers Shibuya's shops, fusion, and early-game encounters.

Alright, so you've made it to Shibuya plaza. The Shinentai here will tell you it's a 'free area,' basically neutral ground for demons. While other places are full of philosophical brawls, Shibuya's chill. Keep in mind there are two underground entrances from the plaza, plus a 'hidden' building. You'll want to steer clear of that hidden building for now; it's way too tough for where you are in the game and you'll get absolutely demolished if you try to go in.

Let's head through the left entrance from the plaza. This leads to the mall, where you'll find Hee-Ho-kun, a Jack Frost who's saving up for a big trip. He's got some useful Magatama for sale: the Iyomante and Shiranui. If you can't afford them right now, don't sweat it – you can always come back later, even after the shop changes hands.

MANIAC NOTE: If you're playing the Maniacs version and imported your old Nocturne save, Hee-Ho-kun will recognize you and give you a special unlimited-use item. The item you get depends on the last digit of your playtime in your old save. For example, if your playtime was 54:32, the last digit is 2. Here's the breakdown:

  • 0, 7, 8: Hama Spirit Fan
  • 1, 2, 3, 6, 9: Far Sight Telescope
  • 4: Chakra Kongotan
  • 5: Hangon-Shinshu

The Hangon-Shinshu is definitely the one to aim for, especially if you're playing on Hard mode.

The mall also has a healing spot, a Terminal, and, importantly, a Jakyo Manor. This is where you'll be fusing your demons from now on, so get familiar with how it works. You'll probably be too low-level to fuse anything amazing right away, but that's fine for now.

Now, let's check out the right entrance from the plaza, which leads to the main part of Shibuya. You'll hear from a Kodama that Magatsuhi is what everyone's after because it can grant wishes. You'll also run into a Shinentai who wants to fight – it's just a Will o' Wisp, so it should be an easy win.

As you go further in, be careful when you see three rooms lined up on one wall. Doors 1 and 2 don't have anything special, but Door 3 is a trap. It leads to a tough fight against a Maju Nekomata. You might want to save that encounter for later when you're stronger.

Head downstairs to the Disco Inferno. You'll find Chiaki here. She's the one who escaped the hospital with you and is trying to figure out if she should be happy you're both safe or sad about the world's destruction. She'll ask what happened, and you can tell her
