Your guide to Route 16 in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon! Find Pokémon, battle trainers, and collect items on your journey through Ula'ula Island.
Alright, so you've just rolled in from Route 15, and the first thing you'll want to do is head to the Pokémon Center just up and to the northeast. Get your team healed up before you venture further!
Right outside the Pokémon Center, you'll find a Team Skull Grunt causing a ruckus in front of the café. Time to show him how it's done and settle things with a battle!
Team Skull Grunt Battle
This Grunt's got a Trubbish at Level 35. Watch out for its Sludge Bomb attack, as it hits hard, and it can also use Clear Smog to reset any stat boosts you've given your Pokémon. Your best bet here is to use a strong Ground or Psychic-type Pokémon to take it down quickly.
After you've dealt with the Grunt, the café owner will thank you by giving you a free glass of Moomoo Milk. Nice!
Now, follow the dirt path heading east. As the path starts to curve, you'll spot an Aether Foundation trailer with some Spinda dancing nearby. Head into the trailer – there's not much to do inside, but it's good to know where it is. You'll see the Reassembly Unit, but you can't use it just yet; you'll need to have completed the game and caught a Zygarde to use it. Trading one from another game won't work, unfortunately.
Step back outside and go around the back of the trailer, past those dancing Spinda. Look for Totem Sticker #071 stuck to the side of the trailer and peel it off. Then, crawl through the gap underneath the trailer where you found the sticker. You'll end up in a little hiding spot where a Preschooler is waiting for a battle.
Preschooler Kindra Battle
This Preschooler has a Mimikyu at Level 34. If you remember Acerola's trial, this is the same Pokémon, but this one is a bit easier. It's weak to Ghost and Steel-type moves. Interestingly, this Mimikyu only knows Dark and Normal-type attacks, so it won't get any STAB bonuses from those.
After the battle, keep heading south along the narrow path. You'll find TM81 X-Scissor tucked away – grab it! Then, crawl back out to the other side. Head southeast towards the tall grass. You'll find a Scientist hanging around the edges of the grass, looking for a test subject. Yep, that's you!
Scientist Reid Battle
Scientist Reid has a Charjabug at Level 35 and an Alolan Muk at Level 35. The Charjabug is the middle evolution of Grubbin and is weak to Fire and Rock-type moves. Be aware that Reid might use an X Sp. Def to boost its Special Defense. Alolan Muk is weak to Ground-type moves. It doesn't have any Poison-type attacks, but it does know Minimize, which could make it tricky to hit.
If you head towards the far east, past the tall grass, you'll find a PP Up next to the cliffside. After grabbing that, it's time to head back west towards the Pokémon Center. Once you're healed up, continue west along the dirt path, and then head north to leave Route 16. Feel free to check the berry pile and the tall grass to the west of the path before you go!
