Alright, let's get you prepped for Hapu's Grand Trial! She's the Kahuna of Poni Island, and she's a tough one, especially since she's all about that Ground-type power. You'll need to bring your best to take her down.

Hapu's Pokémon:

  • Golurk - Level 53 (Ground/Ghost)
  • Gastrodon - Level 53 (Water/Ground)
  • Flygon - Level 53 (Ground/Dragon)
  • Mudsdale - Level 54 (Ground)

Strategy:

  • Golurk: This thing hits hard with Earthquake and Shadow Punch. It can also set up Stealth Rock, which will chip away at your Pokémon every time you switch. Your best bet here are Grass or Water-type moves.
  • Gastrodon: Hapu's Gastrodon has a lot of HP and can use moves like Muddy Water and Mud Bomb to deal damage and lower your accuracy. It can also heal itself with Recover. Grass-types are your absolute best friends here, as they'll do 4x the damage! If you don't have a strong Grass-type, other types will hit neutrally.
  • Flygon: This speedy Pokémon uses Earth Power and Dragon Breath. Ice-type moves are your absolute best counter here, dealing 4x damage. If you don't have Ice-types, Fairy-types with good special defense can also hold their own.
  • Mudsdale: Hapu's ace is a bulky Mudsdale. It's slow but hits like a truck with Earthquake. It can also use Heavy Slam and Double Kick against Ice-types, and Payback for other situations. Don't forget it has its Groundium Z move! Again, Grass or Water-types are your go-to here.

Once you beat Hapu, you're pretty much set for the Pokémon League! Just one more step to becoming the Champion!

Post-Trial Events:

After you've bested Hapu, you might want to swing by the restaurant in Seafolk Village. If you try to order the 'Zumongous Z-Noodles', Hapu might show up! Like the events with Olivia and Nanu, this can get you 2 Heart Scales each day. It's not the most efficient way to get Heart Scales, but if you're a big Hapu fan or really need them, it's an option.

Also, if you ever find yourself with some downtime, head back to Exeggutor Island. Go to the spot where you found the flute and battled Hapu before. If it's raining heavily when you get there, the village chief will guide you to a shelter. Later, if you visit Exeggutor Island at night, you can uncover a secret about the Exeggutor there.
