Learn how to leave Melemele Island in Pokémon Ultra Sun & Moon. This guide covers visiting the Alola Photo Club and starting Mantine Surf to reach Akala Island.
Walkthrough
- 1Make your way to Hau'oli City and find the Alola Photo Club, located between the malasada shop and the police station. It will be marked by a red flag on your Town Map.
- 2Enter the Alola Photo Club. A clerk will greet you and ask you to take a commemorative photograph.
- 3Take a photograph, customize it with backdrops, poses, and stickers, and save it to your Photo Album. The Photo Album is accessible via the X button menu.
- 4Exit the Alola Photo Club. Hau will approach you with his newly evolved starter Pokémon, and Kukui and Lillie will also catch up.
- 5The original plan was to travel to Akala Island by Kukui's sailboat, but Hau suggests trying Mantine Surfing at Big Wave Beach instead. Big Wave Beach is west of the motel on the lower half of Route 2.
- 6Approach the Mantine in the sea at Big Wave Beach when you are ready to leave Melemele Island.
Tips
- The Alola Photo Club allows you to take photos with yourself and your Pokémon companions, with options to change backdrops, poses, and add stickers. Photos can be saved in your Photo Album and shared with other players in Festival Plaza.
- Mantine Surf involves riding waves, gaining speed by holding Right on the Circle Pad, and then holding Left to ride the wave.
- Climbing the edge of a wave allows you to launch into the air, where you can perform rolls by pressing directions on the Circle Pad to execute tricks.
- Landing without rolling grants a landing bonus and conserves speed.
- Avoid obstacles like rocks, Tentacools, Sharpedos, and Wailords, as they will decrease your speed.
- Aim for yellow or red winds around your trainer to indicate good speed before launching into the air.
- In the air, try to perform 3-4 rolls for a trick, or up to 7-8 rolls at maximum height for multiple tricks.
- The key to a high score in Mantine Surf is building maximum speed for maximum height, performing tricks, and landing perfectly.
- While a high score is desirable, it is not essential for progressing to the next island.
