Domains

At Character Creation, Clerics may choose two domains. Each domain grants a special power and additional spells, increasing the total number of spells a Cleric can prepare each day by one spell per spell level. Below is a summary of each domain's major features:

  • DEATH: Negative plane avatar
  • DESTRUCTION: Turning damages constructs
  • EARTH: Can turn elements
  • EVIL: Can turn outsiders
  • FIRE: Can turn elements
  • GOOD: Can turn outsiders
  • HEALING: All healing spells are empowered
  • KNOWLEDGE: More domain spells
  • MAGIC: More domain spells
  • PLANT: Can turn vermin
  • PROTECTION: Divine protection
  • STRENGTH: Divine strength
  • SUN: Improved turn undead
  • TRAVEL: More domain spells
  • TRICKERY: Improves skills generally used by Rogues
  • WAR: Battle mastery
  • WATER: Can turn elements

Effect Descriptions

Game effects describe the results of a character's interaction with the game environment, creatures, and items. Effects can be complex, like being stuck in webbing, or simple, like an attack bonus. The character's State Bar displays all applied game effects. The most common sources of game effects are spells, spell-like abilities, and equipped magic items.

Bonuses from various sources can stack. However, the same bonus or negative modifier from the same source cannot be applied twice. For example, the spell Bull's Strength provides a temporary bonus to Strength. A character cannot have two bonuses from Bull's Strength simultaneously, even if cast twice by the same caster. If a character has a +3 bonus to Strength from Bull's Strength and a +2 bonus from a magic ring, these stack for a total +5 bonus. Bonuses applied from the same source do not stack; the higher bonus is applied. If Bull's Strength was cast twice, granting +5 and +2 respectively, the +5 bonus would apply, even if it wasn't the last spell cast.
