Walkthrough for Neverwinter's 'Undead Infestation' main quest. Find the Great Cemetery, Crypts, Warrens, defeat Gulnan, and collect the Yuan-Ti Heart.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Begin by talking to Harben Ashensmith in the Shining Serpent Inn for information regarding the Undead Infestation quest.
  2. 2
You must enter the Great Cemetery. There are two ways to access it:
    • Via the Strange Building: Located in the northeast of the district. Say "you follow the way of the serpent" to gain access to the Snake Cult Estate, provided you have the Estate Ward Stone from Jemanine. Kill all cultists, including the Cult Leader. On a bookshelf, take the book "In Service of Gulnan" to update the side quests "Sword Coast Boys" and "Strange Cult." Proceed down the stairs to enter the Crypts.
  3. 3
Via the Warehouse: Located in the northwest of the district. After defeating Drawl and freeing Walters (refer to other quests for details), go down the stairs and through the door to enter the Crypts.
  4. 4
Regardless of the entry point, you will arrive in the Crypts. Explore this area. Pull a lever to open a locked door. To access the other end of the Crypt, you may need to enter from an area above.
  5. 5
Beware of a powerful Bloated Dire Spider in the Crypts. After defeating it, go up the stairs in that room to reach the Great Cemetery.
  6. 6
Clear out all the Zombies in the Great Cemetery and then enter the Warrens of the Damned.
  7. 7
If you are on the Temple of Tyr side quest, open the tomb on the left of the Warren, place your Ceremonial Shield in the chest, and retrieve a book from the sarcophagus.
  8. 8
Upon entering the Warren, you will encounter possessed Zombies. Explore the Warren to fight more undead creatures. If you have the ability to turn undead, this is a good place to practice.
  9. 9
In the northeast corner room of the Warren, find an Ancient Key in the armoire. This key unlocks a previously encountered locked door.
  10. 10
In the southeast corner of the Warren, find the corpse of Torin and take his ring.
  11. 11
Use the Ancient Key on the locked door near the entrance of the Warren. Search the chests and a sarcophagus for items, including Armor of Comfort.
  12. 12
XP Gaining Trick: Place any item into the sarcophagus and take it back out to repeatedly spawn Mummies. Killing Mummies grants XP (e.g., at level 6, 94 XP per kill; at level 9, 34 XP per kill). This can be used to level up quickly.
  13. 13
After leveling up (if desired), proceed to the room in the top center of the map for a significant battle.
  14. 14
In this large room, defeat all Zombies and other undead creatures. You will then face Gulnan.
  15. 15
Defeat Gulnan. Search her remains to find Waterdhavian number three, the Yuan-Ti Heart, along with Special Holy Water and a Scimitar +1.
  16. 16
Completing this part also finishes the "Sword Coast Boys" and "Strange Cult" side quests.
  17. 17
To officially complete the "Undead Infestation" quest, return to Harben in the Shining Serpent Inn. He will reward you with a Short Sword +1 and 200 gold.
  18. 18
Take the Yuan-Ti Heart to Lady Aribeth to learn about the last Waterdhavian. You will receive 150 XP and 500 gold for this.
Tips
  • The XP trick involving the sarcophagus can be used to gain levels rapidly, especially before facing Gulnan or other challenging encounters.
  • Turning undead is effective in the Warrens of the Damned.
  • Gulnan is described as an easy boss fight.
  • From Harben Ashensmith: Short Sword +1 and 200 gold.
  • From Lady Aribeth (for delivering Yuan-Ti Heart): 150 XP and 500 gold.
  • Completing the quest also updates "Sword Coast Boys" and "Strange Cult" side quests.
