The Mojave Outpost

The Mojave Outpost is a key location in Fallout: New Vegas, offering various interactions and quests. Upon arrival, speak with Sgt. Kilborn to learn about the area's background, the NCR's struggles, and the threat of Caesar's Legion.

To the west are two buildings: the Mojave Outpost Headquarters and the Mojave Outpost Barracks. Before entering, head to the roof of the barracks and speak with Ranger Ghost. She will ask you to investigate Nipton due to a lack of traffic and ominous smoke, initiating the quest Keep Your Eyes on the Prize. Your objective will be to explore the Mojave Outpost and then head to Nipton.

Mojave Outpost Headquarters

Inside the Headquarters, talk to Major Knight. He can repair your gear and offers a quest related to Primm. If your Barter skill is 20 or higher, you can convince him to send reinforcements to Primm. If not, you'll need to assist the NCR here first.

In the back of the building, Ranger Jackson offers the quest Can You Find it in Your Heart if you ask to help. Completing this quest can provide supplies and is necessary to convince Major Knight to send troops to Primm if your Barter skill is too low. It's a good opportunity to gain favor with the NCR.

A Tale of Two Factions

The NCR and Caesar's Legion are the two primary factions in the game, with reputation scales that can be influenced. Quests for one faction may oppose the other, but gaining Fame with one does not automatically result in Infamy with the other. Later in the game, both factions may offer to reset your reputation. It is advisable to complete the Lonesome Road DLC before reaching this point, as it offers lucrative choices that can anger both factions.

Mojave Outpost Barracks

Enter the Barracks building to find Lacey, the bartender. She offers items for sale, can play Caravan, and has a large sum of Caps (over 2,000) to bet. Winning a game of Caravan against her is a significant way to earn Caps, and her funds replenish every three days.

Also in the Barracks is Cass, who is drunk and down on her luck. She talks about her caravan troubles and NCR bureaucracy, eventually suggesting you work for the Crimson Caravan, which starts the quest Heartache by the Number.

A copy of Duck and Cover! magazine can be found under the bar counter near Lacey. It can be acquired without stealing by using the [R3] button to move it to a secluded spot and then stealing it while hidden to avoid gaining Infamy with the NCR, though it will cost Karma.
