Explore Cottonwood Cove in fallout new vegas, find the unique weapon Recompense of the Fallen, and complete the Left My Heart quest.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Fast travel near Cottonwood Cove and follow the road to the riverside camp.
  2. 2
Upon approaching, you may be stopped by a Legion Explorer. Pass a [Speech 35] check to lie your way past, or claim to be a friend of the Legion.
  3. 3
    Loot the area:
  4. 4
In the men's restroom south of the concrete buildings, find a copy of Future Weapons Today.
  5. 5
In the women's restroom, find a Bobbypin on a metal shelf.
  6. 6
Follow the docks east to the Cottonwood Cove Mess Hall for some food.
  7. 7
In the Cottonwood Cove Shack south of the restrooms, find mechanical junk.
  8. 8
North of the concrete buildings, search tents and Metal Crates and Personal Footlockers for loot.
  9. 9
Return to the concrete buildings and enter the eastern one, Cottonwood Cove Storage. Loot Crates, ammo, and a Reloading Bench. A Personal Footlocker under a bed contains better loot.
  10. 10
Enter the western, multi-storied building, Cottonwood Cove HQ.
  11. 11
On the bottom floor, loot Gun Cabinets along the eastern wall for arms and ammo.
  12. 12
Along the southern wall, find a Filing Cabinet containing Legion Raid Plans (leave these for a later quest).
  13. 13
Loot nearby Metal Boxes and Sunset Sarsaparilla Crates along the western wall.
  14. 14
Head upstairs to the second level.
  15. 15
Find Aurelius of Phoenix, the commanding officer, inside or outside on the room.
  16. 16
Talk to Aurelius of Phoenix. Ask about his operations, then ask if he'll pay you for killing NCR troops. He will offer to pay you for bringing in NCR Dogtags (10 Caps and Caesar’s Legion Fame per tag).
  17. 17
If you pass a [Speech 35] check, he will refer you to Decanus Severus, who pays in supplies (food, ammo, guns, armor, or explosives) instead of Caps. More tags allow for better rewards.
  18. 18
Loot Phoenix’s office, including several Gun Cabinets.
  19. 19
Search Aurelius’s desk for goodies, including the unique Unarmed weapon Recompense of the Fallen.
  20. 20
Leave the Legion Raid Notes behind as they are for a future quest.
  21. 21
Search the table near the bed in the south-eastern corner to find a copy of Grognak the Barbarian.
  22. 22
Leave the Cottonwood Cove HQ and go to the tents to the north to find Decanus Severus.
  23. 23
Talk to Decanus Severus about Legion operations.
  24. 24
You can teach him how to make Powder Charges (if you have the schematic from the NCRCF). Reward: 50 XP, Caesar’s Legion Fame.
  25. 25
If you pass an [Explosives 50] check, you can teach him how to disarm Frag Mines. Reward: 50 XP, Caesar’s Legion Fame.
  26. 26
To start the _Left My Heart_ quest, find Frank Weathers' family in a cage east of the tents, adjoining the Cottonwood Cove Storage Building.
  27. 27
    To enter the cage:
  28. 28
    Pick the locked gate [Hard].
  29. 29
Steal the Weather’s Slave Key off Canyon Runner, a Legionary patrolling nearby.
  30. 30
Once inside the fence, Mrs. Weather will explain their capture and that Frank was not a saint.
  31. 31
Warning: If you pass a [Speech 40] check to convince them to run, the Legion will become hostile, and their slave collars will explode, killing them.
  32. 32
Warning: Attempting to defuse the collars can result in their death if you fail the [Explosives 50] disarm check or lie about it with an [Explosives 35] check.
Tips
  • Turning in NCR Dogtags to Aurelius of Phoenix or Decanus Severus is a good way to improve your Caesar’s Legion Fame. You can also turn them in to an NCR source later for favor with them.
  • The Legion Raid Plans found in the Filing Cabinet in Cottonwood Cove HQ and Legion Raid Notes in Aurelius’s office are for a quest that can be started later.
  • Unique Unarmed weapon: Recompense of the Fallen
  • Copy of Grognak the Barbarian
  • Caesar’s Legion Fame
  • Caps (from Aurelius of Phoenix) or Supplies (from Decanus Severus)
  • XP for teaching Decanus Severus
