Explore Jacobstown in fallout new vegas, find Grognak the Barbarian, and start the Guess Who I Saw Today quest. Deal with mercenaries for 2500 Caps.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Explore the bungalows north-east of Jacobstown Lodge. In the southern-most bungalow, find a copy of Grognak the Barbarian near a broken refrigerator and an oven, and a Nuka-Cola Victory inside the broken fridge. The other two bungalows contain less valuable loot, but the northern-most one has a Service Rifle and 5.56mm Rounds over the fireplace, and the north-eastern-most one has a Sunset Sarsaparilla Star Bottle Cap on a table.
  2. 2
Enter Jacobstown Lodge and speak with the Nightkin named Keene.
  3. 3
Take the Snow Globe - Mt. Charleston off the counter.
  4. 4
Loot the smaller rooms to the north-west for clothes from Dressers and two Ammo Boxes.
  5. 5
Upstairs, find several magazines, chems, Ammo Boxes, and a locked Safe [Average]. Marcus’s Room [Hard] contains little of value.
  6. 6
In the clinic to the north-east, speak with the Ghoul Calamity to trade, buy food and chems, or repair items.
  7. 7
Speak with Doctor Henry in the clinic. Ask about his and the Ghoul Calamity's research on Nightstalkers and Mark II Stealth Boys. Offer to help him to start the quest Guess Who I Saw Today, and he will suggest taking Lily with you.
  8. 8
Leave the lodge and find the Nightkin named Lily near a Bighorner pen. Talk to her, convince her you are not Jimmy, and ask her to join you. While traveling with Lily, you will gain the Stealth Girl perk, which triples Stealth Boy duration and grants a 10% damage bonus with sneak attack criticals.
  9. 9
Attempt to leave Jacobstown through the front gate. Marcus will stop you and inform you about mercenaries harassing the mutants, initiating the Unfriendly Persuasion quest.
  10. 10
Follow the road east to find Norton, the mercenary leader. You can:
    • Kill all the mercenaries. They are equipped with Plasma Rifles, a Sniper Rifle, an Assault Carbine, Metal Armor, and Combat Armor. Killing them will grant NCR Infamy.
  11. 11
Sneak attack and kill them all if your Sneak skill is high enough.
  12. 12
Buy them off for 2,500 Caps.
  13. 13
Pass a [Speech 65] check to convince them to leave.
  14. 14
You can also convince them to leave peacefully and then sneakily kill them as they depart. Norton is the only one who leaves immediately.
  15. 15
If you kill the mercenaries, you will receive 250 XP.
  16. 16
After dealing with the mercenaries, head north-west into the snowy hills to find Charleston Cave for the Guess Who I Saw Today quest.
  17. 17
Enter Charleston Cave and head south from the entrance. At a fork, continue south into a cavern containing beds, an Ammo Box [Easy], and more tunnels.
  18. 18
Head west down a tunnel to another fork. Continue west to a dead-end ledge overlooking a large, Nightstalker-filled cavern. Instead, take the south tunnel to reach the cavern.
  19. 19
Clear the chamber of Nightstalkers, then proceed down another south tunnel that leads to a small chamber.
  20. 20
Kill the Nightstalkers in the chamber and loot a dead Nightkin for a “Chewed Stealth Boy”.
  21. 21
Loot the unique Super Sledge, Oh, Baby!, found nearby.
  22. 22
Follow a tunnel to the east to reach a chamber flooded with radioactive water. Two tunnels lead north; the western one leads to a door [Hard].
Tips
  • The bungalows offer a good initial loot sweep before heading into the lodge.
  • Keene in the lodge is hostile and will attack if provoked.
  • The locked Safe [Average] in the lodge upstairs is not particularly rewarding for its difficulty.
  • Doctor Henry can repair your items.
  • Lily's Stealth Girl perk is very useful for stealthy players.
  • The mercenaries in 'Unfriendly Persuasion' are well-armed; be prepared for a tough fight if you choose to engage them directly.
  • Charleston Cave is filled with invisible Nightstalkers, making combat challenging.
  • The “Chewed Stealth Boy” found in Charleston Cave likely explains the Nightstalkers' invisibility.
  • Grognak the Barbarian magazine
  • Nuka-Cola Victory
  • Snow Globe - Mt. Charleston
  • Stealth Girl perk (while Lily is with you)
  • 250 XP for killing mercenaries
  • Oh, Baby! (unique Super Sledge)
