Cass and the Van Graffs

Your friendly guide to the 'Birds of a Feather' side quest in Fallout: New Vegas. Learn how to handle the Van Graffs, guard duty, and the tricky Legion deal.

So, you're looking to get involved with the Van Graffs and Cass? This quest, 'Birds of a Feather,' kicks off when you head over to the Silver Rush in Freeside. It's run by Gloria Van Graff and her brother, Jean-Baptiste Cutting, and they're all about the high-end energy weapons. Just a heads-up, when you walk in, they'll take all your gear, so be prepared to go in disarmed. Gloria will offer you a job guarding the front door. If you accept, you'll meet Simon outside, who'll get you set up with some Van Graff combat armor and a choice of a laser or plasma rifle. Your main job is to keep an eye on who comes in and make sure they're not packing heat. You'll have to deal with five visitors. Some are easy, but one guy, Visitor 3, might give you trouble about being searched. You'll need a Speech skill of 65 to convince him smoothly. Visitor 4 is the real danger – he's got a bomb! If you let him in unchecked, he'll blow the place up and fail the quest. You'll need to either search him or refuse him entry. If he turns hostile, you'll have to take him down, but the bomb won't detonate if you do that. After you've handled the visitors, you'll need to report back to Gloria. She'll then send you to deliver a package to a 'strange man.' Once that's done, you'll head back to Gloria again. Next, Jean-Baptiste Cutting will want you to find Rose of Sharon Cassidy (Cass). If Cass is already dead, you'll just need to inform Jean-Baptiste. If she's alive, bring her to the Silver Rush. Finally, Gloria will send you to an abandoned warehouse to oversee a weapon deal with the Legion. After that, you'll speak with Gloria one last time to wrap things up and get your reward: 600 XP, Van Graff combat armor, 1000 caps, and some fame with the NCR and Freeside.
