Walkthrough
- 1Find Danny by the chapel in Diamond City. He's in pain and being treated by the pastor. He'll tell you he saw the Mayor with a synth and was attacked, initiating the quest to “Confront Mayor McDonough”.
- 2Optionally, you can give Danny a Stimpak.
- 3Head up the stairs near Danny and use the elevator to reach the Mayor’s Office.
- 4Piper (or a guard) will be banging on the locked door. You have several options to get inside:
- Picklock the door (Novice lock). Piper will dislike this.
- 5Find a button under Geneva’s desk to open the door.
- 6Pass a Charisma check (equip Charisma-boosting gear beforehand).
- 7Once inside, McDonough will appear, holding Geneva hostage. You can attempt a moderate speech check to convince him to let her go, which Piper will approve of.
- 8McDonough will demand to leave the city, but Piper and/or the security guard will stop him.
- 9You have several options for how to proceed:
- Agree to let him walk out.
- 10Attack him.
- 11Question him.
- 12Make him stand trial. (Recommended by the guide, as Piper approves.)
- 13You will likely have to fight McDonough. If Geneva was not freed, use VATS to target his head. He is a low-level enemy (around level 12) and not a significant threat.
- 14After defeating McDonough, loot his corpse for “Kellogg’s House Key” (which is not needed) and other items like ammo and caps.
- 15The quest concludes as bystanders comment on his death and thank you.
Tips
- Consider quick-saving before confronting the Mayor, especially before the Charisma check or speech check.
- Equip Charisma-boosting gear before attempting the Charisma check to open the door or the speech check to free Geneva.
- Piper approves of freeing Geneva via speech check and making the Mayor stand trial.
