Walkthrough for bravely default's Ba al i; Turtle Dove (Lv.99, Lv.20, Plus). Learn how to counter the Love status ailment and defeat this powerful foe.
- Turtle Dove Lv.99, Lv.20, Plus
- Nemeses Part 1
Walkthrough
- 1Turtle Dove inflicts a new status ailment called 'Love'. When a character is in Love, a thought bubble appears above their head, indicating a party member they currently fawn over. Characters in Love do not follow commands and instead copy the actions performed by the character they fancy. BP, HP, and MP are still consumed, and characters in Love will receive damage if the character they’re in love with takes a hit.
- 2After a few turns, Turtle Dove will use 'Heartbreak' to instantly cure everyone of Love, but those in Love will take big damage. You cannot cure or prevent Love yourself, and multiple characters can fall in Love too. Have backup healers or healing items in case your primary healer is struck by Cupid’s arrow. Keep healing those in Love so they don’t die of Heartbreak later.
- 3Near the half HP mark, Turtle Dove will get aggressive and begin to Brave three times in one turn. Its first move after Braving is 'Little Gift', which ups its BP by 3, returning it to 0 BP for the beginning of the next turn. Its other three moves will be Rake, Seraph Blast, and/or Sweet Dreams.
- 4At this stage, the Templar’s Rampart and/or the Ninja’s Utsusemi can help you reduce damage (but not from Seraph Blast). The Vampire’s Rise From Dead and the Time Mage’s Reraise (combined with the Black Mage‘s Group-Cast All) are handy if anybody does die.
- 5Turtle Dove will use 'Triangular' to make two characters fall in Love with the same character. If the character they’re in love with performs an action, they will attack their love rival. Turtle Dove can use Triangular again or Fall In Love, potentially causing the whole party to be in Love.
- 6Easy Strategies: A party of three Freelancers or Knights with Dual Shields (Knight) and Mimic (Freelancer) can be effective. Begin with the Knight’s Super Charge, then Mimic on the rest of your characters for 9999 damage each. Your improved defense will mitigate damage from Rake and Sweet Dreams. When Triangular is in effect, your love rivals will do 1 damage to each other due to low Physical Attack. Your fourth character, the healer, can manage damage from Seraph Blast and Heartbreak. The High Jump strategy also works to avoid all of Turtle Dove’s attacks.
- 7Level 20 Version: This version has 15,000 HP, is weak to Wind and Aerial, and immune to Earth. It has much lower Strength, so its attacks don’t hurt as hard, and it won’t use Seraph Blast.
- 8Plus Version (Lv.99): This version has 999,999 HP, is weak to Wind and Aerial, and immune to Earth. It has 9999 Physical Defense and Magic Defense, and 127 Speed (up to 190 after Defaulting with Slow and Steady). The unpreventable Love condition is a major issue.
- 9Plus Version Strategy: Use Defence-piercing moves like the Monk‘s Pressure Point, Vampire’s Fireball, Attack items, or Pierce Magic Defense (Black Mage). For the high Speed and Love, the outcome is largely up to luck, even with support abilities.
- 10Plus Version Easy Method: Use a modified High Jump strategy. Equip the Valkyrie’s job command, Steady MP Recover (Conjurer), and Fox Tails or Falcon Knives in both hands. One character should be a Performer with Speed 30% Up, Speed 10% Up, a Red Cap, Kenpo Gi, and Hermes Shoes for optimum Speed.
- 11Your three attackers should be Dark Knights with Speed 20% Up and equipment to get them up to at least 132 Agility (136 should be OK). One attacker needs Hasten World, the other two need HP 20% Up. Equip the Star Corslet (HP +100) if possible to boost maximum HP over 10,000.
- 12Drop everyone’s HP to 1. Head to the Underflow, along the way to the Temple of Fire, and walk on the scorching lava.
- 13On Turn 1, have your Performer use Love Rush and High Jump. Your attackers should use Minus Strike and High Jump. Then turn on Auto-Battle.

- Heartbreak instantly cures Love but deals significant damage to those affected.
- Turtle Dove uses 'Little Gift' to increase its BP significantly after Braving.
- Templar's Rampart and Ninja's Utsusemi can help mitigate damage from most attacks, but not Seraph Blast.
- Vampire's Rise From Dead and Time Mage's Reraise are useful for reviving fallen party members.
- The Plus version has extremely high Physical and Magic Defense, requiring defense-piercing attacks.
- Turtle Dove's high Speed in the Plus version makes it difficult to act before it.
- Dropping HP to 1 and using specific job commands and abilities is key to the Plus version's easy strategy.
