Discover powerful Bravely Default job builds including Ultimate Healer, Counter-attacking Ninja, Deadly Arcanist, Double-shield Knight, Suicidal Monk, and Free Lunch.
This guide covers recommended job builds for Bravely Default, focusing on effective combinations and strategies for various playstyles.
Ultimate Healer
This build focuses on maximizing healing capabilities. The character should be a Salve-maker with White Magic as their job command. The Salve-maker’s Specialty, Healing Lore, doubles the HP or MP restored from abilities or items. The Salve-maker’s Compounding ability allows for powerful concoctions. Early on, a Potion + Phoenix Down can revive characters with full health. Later, Beast Liver + Dragon Fang can double a character’s Maximum HP.
Counter-attacking Ninja
This build is effective against physical enemies. It requires leveling up jobs, with the highest needed being Swordmaster Level 9. Key abilities to equip include Turn Tables (Red Mage Level 4), Counter Amp (Swordmaster Level 9), Transience (Level 2), and Comeback Kid (Level 5). Start by using Utsusemi (Level 4) for evasion. When a physical attack is evaded, the Ninja gains 1 BP and increases Physical and Magic Attack. Transience allows for a counter-attack on single-target hits. This results in gaining 1 BP each turn, allowing for continuous use of Utsusemi and other moves.
Deadly Arcanist
This build is effective for clearing mobs until Obliterate can be used. The Arcanist needs the Black Magic job command, Status Ailment Amp (Level 11), and Group-Cast All (Black Mage Level 14) equipped, along with high Magic Attack. With Group-cast All, Black Mage’s Poison or Sleep can be cast on all enemies, followed by Exterminate (Level 3) or Twilight (Level 5). Braving can allow for all actions in one turn, but be cautious of enemies resistant to Dark.
Double-shield Knight
This build focuses on extreme physical defense. A Knight with the Dual Shields ability (Level 11) is required to equip two shields. Combine this with the best defense-raising equipment and abilities to achieve a very high Physical Defense value. The Performer’s Buff Up can be used in place of defense abilities. Against single-target attacks, a Ninja can use Kairai to direct attacks to the Knight. For magic-based enemies, the Spiritmaster’s Adaptation can nullify elemental spells, or the Knight can use the Dark Knight’s Absorb Magic for non-elemental spells. Note that with no weapons, attacks will be weak, but Super Charge (Level 14) can deal massive damage.
Suicidal Monk
This build requires significant investment and is for players who don't prioritize experience or playing conventionally. The Monk should have the Dark Knight’s job command, Natural Talent (Monk Level 14), See You in Hell (Dark Knight Level 5), and Rise From Dead (Vampire Level 14) equipped. The character should be unequipped (except for costumes). Start with Phoenix Flight to drop the Monk to 1 HP, dealing damage. Then, use the Dark Knight’s Minus Strike each turn to deal damage equal to the Monk’s missing HP. Upon death, the Monk deals massive damage, and can be resurrected or revived by Rise From Dead.
Free Lunch
The Swordmaster’s Free Lunch ability (Level 14) sets MP cost to zero for two turns, allowing the use of powerful, high-cost moves without MP consumption. Recommended moves include Amped Strike (Pirate Level 14) for physical jobs and Meteor (Time Magic) for magical jobs. Start with 3 BP, Brave four times, use Free Lunch, then select the high-cost move three times. For maximum effect, Brave three times the next turn and use the high-cost move four times, though this will put the character in negative HP.
