Discover all the hidden hints, secrets, and unlockables in Bravely Default. Learn how to speed up grinding, unlock costumes, use cheat codes, and more!
This guide covers various hints, secrets, and unlockable content in Bravely Default, offering tips to enhance gameplay and discover hidden features.
Speed Up Grinding
To make grinding much easier, prioritize rebuilding the Norende Accessory Shop. At Level 9, you can purchase the Golden Egg (doubles pg), and at Level 10, the Growth Egg (doubles experience/JP). Each egg costs 200,000 pg and 500,000 pg respectively. Note that these eggs do not stack with each other, but they do stack with abilities like the Freelancer’s JP Up, Merchant’s More Money, and Conjurer’s EXP Up, allowing for triple experience, for instance.
Unlocking Costumes
Several costumes can be acquired throughout the game. These costumes offer no gameplay benefits but provide a new look for your characters.
- Onion Shirt — Tiz: Rebuild Norende Armor Shop to Level 11
- Melodist’s Shirt — Ringabel: Rebuild Norende Accessory Shop to Level 11
- Knight’s Tunic — Agnes: Rebuild Norende Trader to Level 11
- Edea’s Garb — Edea: Rebuild Norende Combat Item Shop to Level 11
- Plain Tunic — All characters: Rebuild Norende Compound Shop to Level 11
- Vestal Garb — Agnes: Complete game with Normal Ending
- Bravo Bikini — Edea: Defeat DeRosa from Chapter 5
Konami Code
Input the Konami code sequence on the file selection screen: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A. This will cause the screen to exit and re-enter multiple times. If successful, you will hear a voice clip, and “Special Movie” will be unlocked, allowing you to watch the trailer for the upcoming sequel.
Change Characters Names
From Chapter 5, visit the tavern inside Grandship and speak to the Adventurer’s companion (the fox) by the stairs. This allows you to change the names of the four playable characters. The game will use the new names everywhere except in spoken dialogue.
Mammon Lottery
When you receive a Nemesis from a guest, there’s a chance you’ll get a rare variant of the Mammon Nemesis (Level 25; Japan-only). This Mammon allows you to steal an Elixir, which sells for 25,000 pg. Equip Rob Blind (Thief ability) to steal two Elixirs per battle. Then, flee and repeat. To maximize profits, use a Merchant’s Salesman ability (Level 2) to sell Elixirs for 2.4 times the selling price, yielding 120,000 pg per Mammon battle. Note that not all Japanese Mammons carry an Elixir; most carry an Ether.
Buy Off Bosses
Using the Merchant’s Payoff ability, you can offer the maximum amount (9,990,000 pg) to buy off any enemy, including bosses (except scripted ones). This is generally inefficient for defeating bosses, even with methods like the Mammon Elixir trick to acquire the necessary pg.
New Game+
To unlock New Game Plus, you must beat the game and achieve the True Ending. You can then start a New Game Plus from the file selection screen. Most aspects, including character Levels, Job Levels, items, and journal entries, can be carried over, allowing you to steamroll through the game.
