Learn how to craft and customize Special Moves in Bravely Default, including Attack, Healing, and Status-affecting parts to enhance your combat effectiveness.

Special Moves in Bravely Default are grouped by weapon type, with an ‘E’ icon indicating the currently usable family. Initially, the list of specials may seem sparse, but it expands as you progress and rebuild Norende. Hovering over a Special Move reveals its customizable parts and usage conditions. To change parts, select the Special Move and access the parts list, which also depends on Norende's status. Customizations take effect immediately and can be changed at any time. Importantly, customizing a Special Move for one character does not affect the same Special Move for another.

Attack Parts

For offensive Special Moves, you can equip the following parts:

  • Element: Aligns the special with one of seven elements (Fire, Water, Lightning, Wind, Earth, Light, Dark). Using an element an enemy is weak against increases damage by 1.5x, but beware of immunities or absorptions.
  • Power Boost: Increases damage from 10% up to 50%.
  • Family: Makes the Special Move effective against a specific enemy family (Beast, Plant, Aquatic, Insect, Flier, Undead, Demon, Dragon Slaying), increasing damage by 1.5x when used against them.
  • Status Ailment: Grants a chance to inflict ailments like Poison, Blind, Silence, Sleep, Paralyze, Dread, Charm, or Death.

Healing Parts

For the Rejuvenation (Level 1 Staff Special), you can set:

  • HP Recovery: Increases the amount of HP recovered, with levels from 1 to 5.
  • Cure Ailment: Adds the ability to cure party ailments (Poison, Blind, Silence, Sleep, Paralyze, Dread, Berserk, Stop, Confuse, K.O., Charm, Doom).
  • MP Recovery: Restores MP to the party, with levels from 1 to 5.
  • BP Recovery: Increases party BP, with options for Lv.1 and Lv.2.

Status-affecting Parts

Applicable to Lux (Level 2 Staff Special) and Withering Ripple (Level 2 Rod Special):

  • Consecutive Turns: Extends the duration of the Special Move's effects by 1 to 5 turns.
  • Buff/Debuff: Modifies party stats (e.g., M.ATK, Speed, P.ATK, M.DEF, Evade, P.DEF, Crit Rate for Lux) or enemy stats (e.g., M.ATK, Speed, P.ATK, M.DEF, Accuracy, P.DEF for Withering Ripple).
  • Ailment Resist/Enfeeble: Increases party resistance to ailments or makes enemies more susceptible to them.
  • Element Resist/Enfeeble: Grants party resistance to specific elements or makes enemies weak to them.
