Follow our step-by-step guide to complete the Dragon's Lair quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. Find Monk Slava, deliver messages, and uncover the truth about the bones.
Walkthrough
- 1Starting the Dragon’s Lair Quest: You can only start this quest after progressing significantly through the main story and reaching Kuttenberg. Once you have free rein, head to Bylany, a village southeast of Kuttenberg. Look for Monk Slava, who you can usually find walking around or sitting on a bench near a tree.
- 2Deliver the Message to the Abbot: Slava will ask you to deliver a letter to the Abbot at Sedletz Monastery, located northeast of Kuttenberg. Upon arrival, go around the back to find the Abbot speaking with Gerhard. The Abbot wants the bones burned to prevent heresy, and he'll task you with informing Slava. However, Gerhard will approach you with a different proposal: give him the bones, and he'll reward you. Be aware that Gerhard has already sent someone else to deal with the bones, so it's a race to get them first.
- 3Go Back to Slava: Return to Bylany and find Monk Slava near the tree in the village's southeast. You can tell him about the Abbot's wish to burn the bones or Gerhard's offer. Regardless of your choice, Slava will reveal that a man named Vashek found the bones and you need to speak with him to learn their location. Before you can leave, the Alchemist Leopold and his bodyguards will interrupt. You can try to persuade them to leave (Very Hard check), or you'll have to fight his two bodyguards. After this encounter, head to the tavern to find Vashek. You can pass a speech check (“You’ll be doing yourself a favour as well.”) to get him to explain the bones' location. He'll give you a lengthy description, but it's easier to follow the map provided or head to the first objective marker northwest of the quest area.
- 4Find the Bones According to the Description: Your first objective will be the Woodcutter's camp. Henry will start narrating the steps Vashek took to find the bones. You can follow these steps manually or ride directly to the final location, northwest of the search area. Once you arrive at the exact spot, Henry will remark on it. You'll need to grab a Spade and dig up the bones. Leopold will appear and try to intimidate you. You have three options: hand over the bones (failing the quest), pass a very hard speech check, or fight Leopold and his associates. The easiest option is to let the fight begin; it's short, and the enemies aren't too difficult unless you get surrounded. After the skirmish, you can choose to continue fighting or agree to share the bones.
Tips
- If you return all the bones to Slava to be burned, you'll gain positive reputation.
- Handing over only one bone to Slava will still end the quest, though he'll be disappointed.
- Consider the consequences of each choice when dealing with the Abbot, Gerhard, and Leopold, as they affect the quest outcome and potential rewards.
- Pay attention to the speech check difficulties; a successful persuasion can avoid combat.
- The final confrontation at the dig site can be resolved through combat or negotiation, depending on your preference and skill checks.
