Learn how to knock down bird nests in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II! Discover methods like throwing rocks and using bows/crossbows, and find out what valuable loot awaits.
Alright, so you've probably noticed these bird nests scattered around the trees in Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. They look pretty out of reach, right? Birds are smart, building them high up to protect their eggs. But Henry's got a few tricks up his sleeve to get them down, and trust me, it's usually worth the effort.
You've got two main ways to tackle these nests: either by chucking rocks at them or by using your trusty bow or crossbow. Which method you use really depends on how high up the nest is.
Throwing Rocks at Nests
For nests that are lower down, just a good old-fashioned rock toss will do the trick. To do this, you'll need to sneak up first (press C on PC or R3 on controller). Then, hold down the aim button (G on PC or R1 on controller) to line up your shot. While this is often used to distract enemies, it works just as well for spooking animals or, in our case, reminding gravity who's boss. Just a heads-up, though: Henry tends to throw rocks a little bit off from where your reticle is pointing, so you'll need to practice and adjust your aim a bit. The good news is, rocks are practically infinite, so you won't run out. The downside? They're short-range and not super accurate, meaning those super high nests might be a real pain, or even impossible, to hit this way.
Shooting Nests with Bows and Crossbows
When those nests are just too high for rocks, it's time to bring out the big guns – your bow or crossbow. You can snag these from fallen bandits, or you can visit Vitek, the Huntsman's son, who hangs out west of Tachov. There's also a handy 'Target on a tree' point of interest on the road between Troskowitz and Tachov where you can grab a starter bow and some arrows. When you're using these weapons for nest-busting, do yourself a favor and use the crude arrows or bolts. Save your good ammo for actual combat! You can find crude arrows and bolts dropped by bandits or buy them from Vitek.
Don't forget to check out that 'Target on a tree' spot between Tachov and Troskowitz; it's a great place to get kitted out for some early nest-hunting.
Loot From Nests
Now, about the good stuff. Sure, eggs are nice and all – they make for a decent snack when food is scarce, but honestly, there are so many other food sources in the game that eggs alone aren't a huge draw. The real reason to go after these nests is the other treasures they often hide. We're talking:
- Lockpicks
- Dice
- Sword pommels, guards, and other crafting components
- Spectacles (these sell for a good chunk of change!)
- Rings, brooches, and other valuables
- Tin, Silver, and Gold Badges
We've seen all sorts of these goodies fall out of nests, especially around the Trosky region. Keep in mind that nests have fixed spawn locations. If you're not keen on hunting down every single one, our interactive map can show you where to find them and what's inside. Plus, discovering a nest gives you a little bit of Survival EXP, and successfully shooting one down nets you a tiny bit of Marksmanship EXP.
A word of caution: Nests can be surprisingly bouncy when they hit the ground, or they might just roll away. Since most nests are found out in the wilderness, a bad bounce could send it rolling into thick brush or down a hill, making it incredibly hard to find. So, when you shoot one down, try to aim for a spot where it's likely to land on flatter, open ground if possible.
