Follow our walkthrough for the Dulled Steel, Cold Forge quest in Dragon's Dogma 2. Learn where to find Brokkr's Smithy, collect Glimmercoal in Digger's Ruins, and help Sara reignite the forge.

Alright, let's get this quest, 'Dulled Steel, Cold Forge,' sorted out in Dragon's Dogma 2. First things first, you'll need to make your way to Bakbattahl. You can hoof it from Checkpoint Rest Town, or if you're feeling adventurous, there's a shortcut through the Guerco Cave. We've got a separate guide for that early Battahl access if you're curious.

Once you arrive in Bakbattahl, keep an eye out for Brokkr's Smithy. It's tucked away in the southwest corner of the city. Head there, and you'll meet Brokkr and his apprentice, Sara. You can chat with Brokkr and offer him the Regalia Sword, but don't get your hopes up – he's given up on smithing. Sara, however, is much more keen to help, but she'll ask you to wait until Brokkr leaves before you talk to her.

Speak with Sara at Brokkr’s Smithy

It turns out Brokkr's lost his spark because the fuel for his forge, Glimmercoal, has become inaccessible. The Glimmercoal is found in Digger's Ruins, a cave just southwest of Bakbattahl. Unfortunately, monsters have taken over the place, making it impossible for Brokkr and Sara to get the fuel they need. This is where you come in!

How to Find Glimmercoal in Digger’s Ruins

Your next task is to head into Digger's Ruins, clear out the monsters – mostly Knackers and a Minotaur lurking in the depths – and collect at least 15 Glimmercoal. Sara needs this to get the forge running again and hopefully rekindle Brokkr's passion.

Here's a crucial tip for finding the Glimmercoal: keep your Lantern turned OFF. When your lantern is off, the Glimmercoal will glow a distinct bright green. If your lantern is on, it's easy to mistake it for regular Glymercole deposits, and trust me, there's a lot more Glymercole than Glimmercoal in there. Only Glimmercoal will work as fuel for Sara.

It can be a bit of a grind, even with the lantern off, because Digger's Ruins is a decent-sized cave with deposits scattered around, sometimes requiring a bit of climbing or jumping. Stick with it, though, and you should be able to gather what you need within about 30 minutes, factoring in the fights. Remember to loot everything you can, as some Glimmercoal deposits might not glow as brightly as others and look similar to Glymercole.

Pro-Tip: You'll hear a little sound and see Glimmercoal pop up when you find it, which helps distinguish it from Glymercole. The image below shows how Glimmercoal glows when your lantern is off, and on the right, a visual cue for finding it.

How Much Glimmercoal Do You Need?

The quest technically asks for a minimum of 15 Glimmercoal. However, you have the option to bring back up to 25 pieces. Bringing back more will net you a better gold reward at the end of the quest, so if you can manage it, aim for the full 25!

Deliver the Glimmercoal to Sara

Once you've got your Glimmercoal haul (preferably 25 pieces), head back to Sara at Brokkr's Smithy. Hand over the fuel, but you'll find that Brokkr is still pretty set in his ways and not easily swayed. It's up to Sara to try and fix the Regalia Sword herself.

Should You Entrust the Regalia Sword to Sara?

Sara will offer to attempt the sword repair, though she's not exactly brimming with confidence. You can hand over the sword right then and there, which will kick off the next quest, 'Steeled Resolve, Blazing Forge.' Alternatively, you can hold onto the sword and give it to her later. If you want to jump straight into the next part of the story, give it to her immediately. Just be aware that there's a waiting period before you can check on her progress. If you're not planning on heading to Agamen Volcano Island anytime soon, you might want to wait to give her the sword to avoid potentially failing the quest by waiting too long in-game.
