Understand Psy Rating and Psyker Disciplines in "Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader". Learn how Psy Rating affects psychic powers and discipline choices.

A character's Psy Rating governs the strength of their psychic powers. A Sanctioned Psyker initially has a Psy Rating of 0 while an Unsanctioned Psyker has a base Psy Rating of 1. However, a Sanctioned Psyker can take talents (such as Psyker Minoris) which increase their Psy Rating as well as unlocking ability tiers five levels earlier than Unsanctioned Psykers. Psy Rating may be increased by gear as well as temporarily by various abilities.

On character creation, you have to choose from one of five disciplines (Biomancer, Diviner, Pyromancer, Sanctic or Telepath). At levels when you can select an archetype ability or an ability from an existing discipline, you can instead select a new discipline opening up a new selection of abilities and talents.

Tips
  • Consider talents like Psyker Minoris to boost your Psy Rating.
  • Sanctioned Psykers can access higher-tier abilities five levels sooner than Unsanctioned Psykers if they invest in Psy Rating.
  • Gear can provide permanent or temporary boosts to your Psy Rating.
  • Choosing a new discipline at level-up can significantly expand your available psychic powers and talents.
