Keep or Return the Astrolabe

Decide the fate of the Pinch-Smedley Family Astrolabe in Hogwarts Legacy. Learn how to start 'The Lost Astrolabe' quest and choose your reward.

Alright, so you've just wrapped up 'The Girl from Uagadou' and are probably near the 'Trials of Merlin' main quest. To kick off this side quest, head to the docks just northeast of the Lower Hogsfield Floo Flame. Look for a woman named Grace Pinch-Smedley. She's got some family drama going on and needs you to fetch a sunken heirloom – an astrolabe. Agree to help her out, and you'll be diving into the lake to find it.

Now, you don't have a boat or any fancy magic for this, so it's straight-up swimming and diving. Jump off the dock and head towards the quest marker. You'll find a search area with several dive spots, marked by bubbling, rippling water. They can look a bit like breaking waves from a distance, but the area isn't huge, so you won't get too lost. Just keep diving at these spots until you find the Pinch-Smedley Family Astrolabe. Don't worry if you hit the wrong spot; you'll still find other random treasures, so it's not a total loss.

Once you've got the astrolabe, swim back to Grace. You'll have a few choices here:

• You can be a good sport and return the family heirloom.
• You can try to haggle for some coin – you'll get 20 Galleons for your trouble.
• You can decide to keep the astrolabe for yourself.

If you choose to keep it, Grace will be pretty upset and curse you with sorrow, but the astrolabe will just take up space in your inventory. Haggling for the 20 Galleons doesn't seem to have any negative consequences and gives you a little extra cash. No matter what you decide, you'll also get the Mermaid Mask for your efforts.
