Walkthrough
- 1Speak to Crispin Dunne in The Three Broomsticks Inn in Hogsmeade to start the quest. This requires completing the Absconder Encounter side quest and Charles Rookwood's Trial.
- 2Travel to Aranshire and defeat the spiders guarding the hamlet.
- 3Locate Mary Portman's house, which is to the right of the Floo Flame. You will find she has been killed by spiders.
- 4Read Mary's letter to learn she was breeding spiders in her cellar.
- 5Find the entrance to Mary Portman's Cellar behind her house. Hop over the wall to find it.
- 6Inside the cellar, find the ladder and descend into the underground cavern.
- 7Follow the path to the main chasm area and destroy the first 3 egg sacs above the archway. Spiders will spawn, so defeat them first. Use spells like Confringo or Bombarda.
- 8Head north and destroy the wooden barricade. Continue forward and destroy another barricade in a metal grid wall.
- 9In the new passage, defeat the spiders and destroy the 5 egg sacs hidden in alcoves.
- 10Return to the main chasm area and head south, following a slope upwards to an elevated area.
- 11Defeat the spiders in the elevated area and destroy the final 4 egg sacs. One is found near a desk with a journal entry.
- 12Return to the main chasm area to face the Mother Spider. A Thornback Matriarch and smaller spiders will appear. Defeat them, focusing on the Matriarch.
- 13Enter the newly opened space ahead and follow the path downward to the boss fight arena.
- 14Defeat the Insatiable Spider, the real Mother Spider. Use damaging spells, build your Ancient Magic meter, or use Avada Kedavra if you choose. Dodge its attacks and defeat any smaller spiders that appear.
- 15After defeating the Insatiable Spider, loot the Collection Chest on the far side of the room for a random conjuration recipe.
- 16Exit the dungeon by making your way back to the ladder and then to the cellar exit in Aranshire.
- 17Return to Crispin Dunne in The Three Broomsticks Inn to report your findings and complete the quest.
