Walden Pond is one of the more challenging southern areas near Sanctuary in fallout 4. While the pond itself is unimpressive, the surrounding cliffs hold several points of interest.

Walkthrough

    On the cliffs southwest of Walden Pond, locate two buildings: a small cabin inhabited by David Thoreau and a larger gift shop.

    Search Thoreau's cabin for little of interest.

    In the gift shop, find Makeshift Bombs, junk, a Suitcase [Novice], and an Overdue Book behind the counter.

    Behind the counter, you'll find a door [Master] to the basement and a Note to Tweez.

    If you cannot unlock the master door, the basement can be accessed via a sewer pipe mentioned in the note.

    Head east-southeast from the buildings to find a Drainage Pipe leading to caves that connect to the gift shop's basement.

    Navigate north and take another pipe that exits into a chamber containing two raiders, Bear and Tweez. Defeat them.

    Loot a barrel to the east for an issue of Tales of a Junktown Jerky Vendor.

    Proceed down a passage to the southeast to enter the gift store's basement. You can disarm Can Chimes to remain undetected.

    Engage and defeat Whiplash and Walter. Walter can scale up to player level 40 and uses Molotov Cocktails.

    Loot Walter to obtain the Gift Shop Key. This key opens the door upstairs to the northeast, allowing quick access back to the gift shop.

    Use the Gift Shop Key to loot a Safe [Master] in the basement.

    On a metal table along the southeastern wall, find Big Jim, a pipe wrench with the legendary modifier "Kneecapper" (20% chance to cripple the target's leg).

    Clear the rest of the basement.

Car Henge Behemoth:

  1. From the gift shop, travel south and slightly east to find a car henge located just beyond an elevated highway.
  2. If your level is 15 or higher, you will encounter a Super Mutant Behemoth here.
  3. Warning: This Behemoth is a powerful foe. It is recommended to engage only if you are well-armed with explosives like a Fat Man and Mini Nukes, or high-end legendary weapons such as Explosive or Wounding variants.
  4. Behemoths can attack with powerful melee strikes and can also throw boulders. If outmatched, seeking higher ground can offer a temporary reprieve, though they can still throw projectiles.
  5. Killing the Behemoth yields no unique gear or notable loot among the car henge.

Cat Lady Trader:

East of Walden Pond, uphill, you will find a small shack inhabited by a Trader who keeps many cats. You can conduct business with her.

Raider Shack:

Southeast of Walden Pond, there is a shack occupied by several Raiders.
