Exploring Diamond City

Explore Diamond City in fallout 4, from Mayor McDonough's Office to Uptown Residences. Learn about quests, loot, and perks.

Mayor McDonough's Office

Head to the stairs leading to Diamond City’s gate, then turn south to find a metal ramp leading up to an elevator. This elevator takes you to the mayor's office. Speak with his secretary, Geneva, who will offer to sell you a house for 2,000 Caps. This purchase grants you the Home Plate Key, granting access to your new home, The Home Plate. Further west is Mayor McDonough. You can hack his Terminal (Novice) to read his notes and edicts, or use it to open his Safe (Advanced).

Uptown Residence

Descend via the elevator and take the ramp east to reach the affluent area of town. You can pillage several houses here. Avoid the Colonial Taphouse for now, as a lengthy quest begins there. The accessible houses are:

• Hawkthorne Residence: Located on the upper decks, accessible via a catwalk near the city entrance. Be cautious of the nearby Guard. Loot includes random junk, meds, ammo, and cats. A Stealth Boy or high Sneak skill is recommended for lockpicking.
• Cooke Residence: This house has an Advanced lock. Inside, you'll find drugs and a trunk upstairs with random loot and guns.
• Latimer Residence: This house may be unlocked at night. If locked, it requires bypassing an Advanced lock. It contains mostly junk but is notable for a boat with water inside.
• Codman Residence: This house has an Advanced lock. Inside, you'll find a small amount of chems and ammo.

All Faiths Chapel

Return down the metal ramps to the stairs leading to the town's front gate. Head east to find All Faiths Chapel. You can speak with the Pastor and then sit on the pews to gain the “Quiet Reflection” perk, which provides a 5% XP boost for a limited time.

Choice Chops/Polly's House

From the chapel, head north, then east around a corner to find Polly's Choice Chops meat stall. Inside Polly’s House, you can find food and hack a Novice terminal (Polly’s Terminal). There is also a hatch leading to a nearby “Meat Locker” (Novice), which contains no worthwhile items.

Dugout Inn

The Dugout Inn is located east and south of Polly’s House. After entering, listen to a story. Speak with Hawthorne and ask about his adventures to potentially reveal three map locations: Vault 81, Salem, and University Point. Afterward, approach the brothers Vadim and Yefim. They will initiate a conversation about the Diamond City DJ, Travis, which starts the quest “Confidence Man”. Vadim will invite you to a back room to discuss the plan. You can haggle for Caps using speech challenges. They will arrange for Travis to appear at the bar at 6:00. The quest progresses when you speak to Travis while he is being harassed. You can proceed this far to start the quest and then leave it for later. Inside the inn, search a room in the north-eastern corner with blue and yellow wallpaper to find the “Join the Railroad” Holotape on a table near a bed. In the same room, you can hack Vadim and Yefim’s Terminal (Novice) to read humorous notes. An Advanced locked door in the back of this area leads to random goodies and drugs.

Lowtown Residences

Leave the Dugout Inn and continue east to find several lowtown residences: Earl Sterling’s House, Doctor Sun’s House, and Doc Crocker’s House. A Warehouse is located off the path between the first two residences.

• Earl Sterling’s House: Located past the Meat Shop on the right. You can pick a Novice lock to enter. Inside, you can find junk and a Duffle Bag with random goodies.
