Clearing it out makes it way easier to get back to Taffington if you want a safe haven, plus it means you don't have to swim through all that nasty irradiated water.

Now, the bridge itself doesn't have any permanent residents, but don't let that fool you – it's still dangerous. Someone's gone and rigged the whole thing with all sorts of explosive stuff: engine blocks, gas cans, fuel tanks, oil slicks, and even whole vehicles.
