Fallout 4's Far Harbor DLC offers multiple paths to resolve 'Cleansing the Land.' Choose to destroy Acadia or the Children of Atom, or seek peace.
This guide covers the major choices and outcomes for the Fallout 4: Far Harbor DLC quests "Cleansing the Land," "The Way Life Should Be," and "Reformation," focusing on how to deal with Acadia and the Children of Atom.
Option #1 - Dealing with Acadia
You can confront DiMA in Acadia about his actions. After saving your game, speak with him. He may ask you to keep his secrets, but you can attempt to convince him to turn himself in by passing one of two hard speech checks. If successful, he will go to Far Harbor.
Fast travel to Far Harbor to witness the proceedings. Allen Lee will likely call for Acadia's destruction. You can either tell him to stop or defend Acadia by passing a moderate or hard speech check, respectively. The residents of Far Harbor will support your stance if you have completed their side quests; otherwise, their xenophobia may lead them to reject your plea. Regardless of the outcome, DiMA will face justice, and the quest “Close to Home” will begin.
Objective: For bringing DiMA to justice in Far Harbor
Reward: 781 XP
Alternatively, you can side with Allen Lee. This initiates an attack on Acadia after DiMA and the general store owner are executed. You will receive the objective to “Watch or participate in the attack on Acadia.” Fast travel to Acadia to find townsfolk ready for an assault. Speak with Allen to commence the attack.
During the attack, all residents of Acadia become hostile. You can assist in destroying them, as most Synth Refugees are low-level. This includes Kasumi. Upon the destruction of Acadia, the island will be free from their meddling. Allen will reward you with the unique weapon “Lucky Eddy,” caps, and the unique perk “Destroyer of Arcadia” (which grants a massive damage bonus when critically damaged for 30 seconds).
The quest “Close to Home” will also start after Acadia's destruction.
Objective: For helping Far Harbor eradicate Acadia
Reward: 781 XP, 2,200 Caps, Lucky Eddy, Destroyer of Acadia
Quest Completion: Complete the quest "The Way Life Should Be." (20 points)
Other methods to provoke an attack on Acadia include informing Far Harbor that Avery is a Synth. You can tell Captain Avery directly, passing moderate and easy speech checks. Alternatively, approach Allen Lee with proof, such as Avery’s Skull, examined by Teddy. You can then lie or present the evidence truthfully, potentially requiring hard speech checks. This can lead to Allen rallying the town against Acadia.
To avoid destroying Acadia, confront DiMA and agree to keep his secret. It's also noted that you can choose to save or destroy the Children of Atom and Far Harbor from this point. Acadia's fate does not resolve the other factions. For dealing with the Children of Atom and the quest “Cleansing the Land,” proceed to Option #2.
Option #2 - Dealing with the Children of Atom
Destroying the Children of Atom is straightforward, especially with the Nuclear Launch Key. You can ask DiMA about it for minor XP via moderate speech checks, but the main objective is to go to The Nucleus.
Speak with the High Confessor Tektus about the Nuclear Launch Key. If you have it, you can convince him to allow its use by passing an easy or two hard speech checks. He will agree and address his followers while you use the key on the console behind his throne. Exit the area before the countdown ends and watch the destruction from a safe distance.
Do not choose the option “Give High Confessor Key” as he intends to use it only after Far Harbor is destroyed. Instead, select “Use key for division?” then “It’s time for division” to initiate the speech checks. Using the key yourself without consulting Tektus will turn the Children of Atom hostile, forcing you to fight your way out.
Objective: For helping the Nucleus achieve Division
Reward: 781 XP, Far Harbor Survivalist
Quest Completion: Complete the quest "Cleansing the Land." (20 points)
