Navigate the Sanubia Desert in final fantasy x hd. Find Al Bhed Primer Vol. XVII, Mercury Crest, and learn enemy strategies.
Enemies of the Desert
The Sanubia Desert features several unique enemies. The Zu, previously encountered, has more HP but can be quickly defeated with Darkness and Poison. The Sand Worm boasts 45,000 HP and is also vulnerable to Darkness and Poison. The Cactuar is problematic due to its evasion and the instant KO potential of its 10,000 Needles attack; defeating one yields 8,000 AP (12,000 with an Overkill). Overdrives, Aeons' special moves, or thrown items with Use are effective against Cactuars as they bypass evasion.
In the first large open area, proceed north to find a chest with four Hi-Potions. Southwest of there, near a large rock formation, is a chest containing 2 X-Potions on its western side. In the northwest corner of this area, another chest holds 2 Mega-Potions. Journey east along the northern edge to find a Save Sphere. West of the Save Sphere, in the southern part of the area, a chest contains an Elixir. In the northeastern corner, under debris, lies Al Bhed Primer Vol. XVII. Directly south of that, under more debris, are two chests containing a Lv. 2 Key Sphere and 10,000 Gil. Return to the Save Sphere; behind the sign is a chest with eight Al Bhed Potions. North of the Save Sphere, near a smaller sign, is Al Bhed Primer Vol. XVIII. Take the nearby exit to the next screen.
Sand Pits
This screen is another large, open area. Follow the left edge of the minimap (the small circular map in the bottom-left corner of your screen) as you head north. Ignore the path leading southwest, as it loops back. Continue hugging the left wall on the minimap to find a chest among rubble containing 8 Hi-Potions. Directly west of this is a sand pit with another chest containing the Mercury Crest, an item for Rikku’s Celestial Weapon, the Godhand.
Northeast of this alcove, in the main area, is a quicksand pit with a chest on its edge. Approaching it will cause the chest to be sucked in. To open it, you must defeat the enemy within, a Sandragora. Sandragoras have considerable HP, absorb Water, and their Seed Burst skill inflicts Confusion. Armor with Confuse Ward or Confuseproof is recommended. A Sandragora's rare steal is 10 Musks, which can be used to create auto-abilities (16 for Ward, 48 for Proof). You can flee from Sandragoras to farm Musks.
After defeating the Sandragora, open the chest for three Megalixirs. Venture northeast to find another pit with a Sandragora; the chest it guarded contains two Teleport Spheres, useful for the Sphere Grid. The area to the east is blocked by a sandstorm and is part of a sidequest best tackled later with No Encounters. North of the Mercury Crest alcove, debris hides a chest with 3 Mega-Potions. North of that is another chest containing two X-Potions.
A final pit blocks the path north. Defeat the Sandragora within to proceed.
