Learn how to defeat the optional Ifrit boss in Final Fantasy X HD Remaster. Get tips on Valefor's Overdrive, Shield, Boost, and Ifrit's attack patterns.
Walkthrough
- 1You'll first encounter Belgemine on the Mi’ihen Highroad. This fight isn't mandatory, so you can skip it if you wish.
- 2Since you can't use the same Aeon as Belgemine, you'll be fighting with Valefor. If Valefor's Overdrive gauge is full, now's a great time to use Grand Summon to unleash a powerful Overdrive attack.
- 3Pay attention to the brief tutorial at the start of the battle; it'll introduce you to the Shield and Boost commands. Shield stops your Aeon's Overdrive gauge but significantly reduces incoming damage. Boost speeds up the gauge but increases damage taken. You can experiment with Boost if you like, but the fight largely follows a predictable pattern.
- 4Ifrit will alternate between a standard attack and Meteor Strike, which hits harder. The game suggests using Shield right before Meteor Strike to mitigate the damage.
- 5Since Ifrit is immune to the delay effect of Sonic Wings, it's better to use Blizzard for damage. While Ifrit doesn't seem to have an Ice weakness, it's still more effective than other spells. Crucially, do not use Fire attacks, as Ifrit absorbs them completely.
- 6Keep an eye on your Overdrive gauge. You should be able to build up enough for another Overdrive attack, which can be useful for a final push if needed before the fight concludes.
Tips
- Ifrit has 3,500 HP.
- Remember that Ifrit absorbs Fire attacks.
- Using the Shield command is highly recommended when you anticipate Meteor Strike.
- Blizzard is a safe bet for dealing damage, even without a specific Ice weakness.
