Learn Abaddon's weaknesses, drops, and the best strategies to unlock and defeat this tough Monster Arena creation in Final Fantasy X HD Remaster.

Alright, so you've been capturing fiends all over Sin and now you're ready to take on one of the Monster Arena's Area Creations: Abaddon. This guy is a real pain, but don't worry, we'll get you through it. Think of this as a friendly chat about how to handle this big fella.

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • HP: 380,000
  • Overkill HP: 10,000
  • AP: 8,000
  • Weaknesses: Nothing (but vulnerable to Holy via reflection)
  • Resistances: Nothing (but NulAll and Auto-Reflect make most magic useless)

Item Drops:

  • Common Drop: Mana Tablet
  • Rare Drop: Dark Matter
  • Common Steal: Purifying Salt (x3)
  • Rare Steal: Shining Gem

How to Unlock Abaddon:

To even get a shot at fighting Abaddon, you need to have captured at least one of every fiend found inside Sin. This includes monsters like Adamantoise, Barbatos, Behemoth King, Demonolith, Exoray, Gemini (Club), Gemini (Sword), Great Malboro, and Wraith. Make sure you've got them all before heading back to the Monster Arena!

Strategy:

First off, you'll notice those colorful orbs swirling around Abaddon. Those are important because they tie into its abilities. Abaddon has constant NulAll, meaning elemental spells are a waste of MP – they just won't work. On top of that, it has Auto-Reflect, so even if you tried to blast it with magic, it would just bounce right back at you. Pretty annoying, right?

So, how do we hit it? Well, it *is* technically weak to Holy. The trick is to cast Reflect on one of your own characters and then cast Holy on them, hoping it bounces over to Abaddon. This can be a bit hit-or-miss, especially since Abaddon has pretty high Magic Defense. However, and this is a big one, your Celestial Weapons ignore defense entirely. So, if you've got those powered up, they'll always deal full damage, making them your absolute best friend here.

When it comes to Abaddon's attacks, it's got some nasty stuff. It can use the tier-3 elemental spells, and its signature move is Flare, which it'll often bounce off itself onto your party. It also has Pharaoh's Curse, which is a real status ailment party-killer, inflicting Darkness, Curse, Silence, and Poison. Silence isn't a huge deal since you're not relying on magic much, but Curse, Poison, and Darkness can really mess you up. You'll definitely want Darkproof on your armor to counter the Darkness. Curseproof is super rare (requires Tetra Elemental), so just be ready to heal Curse with Holy Waters.

Abaddon can also use Demi, which halves your party's HP, but thankfully, it won't actually kill you. After it uses Demi, Flare, Pharaoh's Curse, and gets hit a few times, it'll use Mana Focus, followed by Emblem of the Cosmos. These can hit pretty hard.

To help mitigate some of that damage, especially from Emblem of the Cosmos, using Shell is a good idea. As for Darkproof, it's not too hard to get – you just need 10 Smoke Bombs, which you can steal from those big bird-like enemies. You can also boost your armor's Magic Defense stat with Magic Defense +% to help out even more.

The most effective way to take Abaddon down is by casting Hastega at the start of the battle to get more turns, and then just spamming Quick Hit. It's fast, powerful, and bypasses most of Abaddon's magical defenses. Keep an eye on those status ailments and heal them up quickly, and you'll be fine!
