Lake Macalania

The main boss is Crawler. The Negator is a distraction but can be beneficial. The Negator blocks all magic and Aeon summons.

Since magic is sealed, use Wakka's attacks to defeat the Negator.

While the Negator is active, Crawler can use Gatling Gun, hitting random party members multiple times. Rikku can use Light Curtains (steal from Iron Giants in Thunder Plains) for Protect, or Yuna can cast Protect once the Negator is down.

Once the Negator is defeated, Crawler will begin counting down to Mana Beam, a powerful attack hitting all characters. This takes three turns to charge.

To interrupt Mana Beam, attack Crawler four times with magic (preferably Thunder, as it's weak to it). This will cause Crawler to summon another Negator, which will stop Mana Beam.

If you cannot cast four magic spells before Mana Beam charges, have Yuna summon an Aeon to absorb the attack.

Crawler can counter any attack with Assault, especially Thunder-based attacks. This hits a single character and can be healed with Yuna or Hi-Potions.

Recommended strategy: Defeat the Negator with Wakka, then apply buffs like Haste (prioritize Tidus, then Lulu), Protect, and Shell.

If you have items like Lightning Marbles or Electro Marbles (obtained from Aerouge and Gold Element in Thunder Plains), you can use them to bypass the Negator and attack Crawler directly. Having Kimahri learn Steal and Use can provide additional item-throwing capabilities.

After defeating Crawler, a scene will play where the party uses Al Bhed sleds to reach Macalania Temple. The character riding with Tidus is determined by a hidden affection mechanic, but it has no impact on gameplay.
