Learn how to take down the Great Malboro in Final Fantasy X HD Remaster. Discover its weaknesses, item drops, and the best strategies to counter its devastating Bad Breath attack.
Alright, let's talk about the Great Malboro. This tough fiend hangs out in the later parts of Inside Sin and also shows up in the Omega Ruins. If you bump into it in the Tower of the Dead area of Inside Sin or in the Omega Ruins, it's going to ambush you and hit the whole party with Bad Breath right off the bat. This move is brutal – it can inflict Berserk, Confusion, Darkness, Poison, Silence, and Slow all at once!
Normally, the Great Malboro only has a chance to use Bad Breath, and it seems to skip it if someone's already poisoned. But because of those ambushes, it's a really good idea to have someone on your team with the First Strike ability equipped on their weapon. Auron's Celestial Weapon has this by default, which is super handy. You'll also want either Provoke or Flee on that character. If you use Provoke, the Malboro will do a regular attack on your whole party instead of Bad Breath. In normal fights, it'll just hit one person with a regular attack. Once you provoke it, though, it becomes a lot less scary.
