Learn the best strategies to take down the challenging Dark Bahamut in Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. Master its attacks and counter-attacks to secure victory.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• HP: 234,000
• Defense: 234
• Agility: 255
• Attacks: Basic Physical, Impulse (after 5 hits), Mega Flare (Overdrive full)
• Impulse Effects: Unblockable damage, Slow, Petrification, Power Break, Armor Break, Mental Break, Magic Break
• Mega Flare Effects: Heavy damage, Dispel

Phases:

1. Standard Attacks & Impulse: Dark Bahamut will use his physical attack. After every five hits he receives (not counters), he'll unleash Impulse, which is unblockable and applies several debilitating breaks to your party, halving your stats.
2. Mega Flare: When his Overdrive gauge fills, he unleashes Mega Flare, a devastating attack that also dispuses your buffs.

Strategy:

• Ribbon is Key: If your party has Ribbon equipped, you can largely ignore the status effects from Impulse. This is the most straightforward way to survive.
• Buffs are Essential: If you don't have Ribbon, focus on buffs. Auto-Protect is highly recommended, as Mega Flare will dispel it, but you can reapply it. Hyper Mighty G is a great way to start, granting Protect, Haste, Regen, and Auto-Life. If you prefer manual buffs, use Ultra NulAll to apply five Cheers, which significantly reduces damage from regular attacks and makes Impulse survivable. Auto-X-Potion will help with healing.
• Offensive Options:
• Quick Hit: Your primary attack should be Quick Hit. Use it consistently and be ready to Dispel any Breaks inflicted by Impulse.
• Aeon Fodder: When Dark Bahamut's Overdrive gauge is nearing full, be prepared to switch in an Aeon to tank Mega Flare. This saves your party members from its devastating effects.
• Wakka's Attack Reels: While Wakka's Attack Reels can deal massive damage (12 hits), you'd need to exceed 66,667 damage on *each* hit against his high Defense (234) to defeat him quickly this way. This is generally unreliable.
• Alternate Method - Counterattack Abuse:
• Evade & Counter: This strategy relies on Dark Bahamut hitting himself. Equip Evade & Counter abilities. Since his counterattacks don't trigger Impulse, he'll essentially wear himself down.
• Sentinel Specials: A character with Sentinel Specials and Counterattack can also work, especially if they have Auto-Potion (with X-Potions), Auto-Protect, and decent Defense. This quarters the damage taken.
• Yuna Management: Keep Yuna out of the main party until Dark Bahamut's Overdrive is full. Then, switch her in to use an Aeon as cannon fodder for Mega Flare.
• Overdrive Abuse: As with many superbosses, abusing Overdrive abilities can be effective if you have them built up.
