Complete Part 80 of Super Mario Land, including how to get all three Star Coins and defeat Boom Boom and Pom Pom.
Walkthrough
- 1In the first section, a Blokkablok is present. You can defeat it by standing underneath the ? Block at its center and jumping to hit it, which will cause a Super Mushroom to drop.
- 2Star Coin Alert! #1: Move over and hit the ! Block three times in succession. Three platform blocks will appear to your north-east. Jump over and run to the last one. The Star Coin will be directly above you. Jump up, grab it and run back before the platform blocks disappear.
- 3Move right, along the plank and jump to the next ship. You will immediately be faced by two Boomerang Bros. Dodge their boomerangs and stomp them. They give out three coins compared to the normal one coin they give.
- 4Star Coin Alert! #2: If you're still Boomerang Mario, you can grab the second Star Coin. Move right and hit the ! Block three times in quick succession. Jump up the platform blocks that appear. At the top one, you will be able to see the Star Coin to your right. Throw a boomerang at it. As soon as it touches the Star Coin, you've got it! Jump back down to the ship before the platform blocks disappear.
- 5Break the north-east of the four boxes if you want a coin, then jump to the small platform. Time it so that the Blokkablok isn't over it, so that you don't have to worry about taking damage from it. As the Blokkablok is so big, it's easy to defeat. Break all of the brick blocks and the ? Block to defeat it. The ? Block contains a Fire Flower which you can grab.
- 6Jump to the ship to your north and run left instead of right.
- 7Star Coin Alert! #3: Run along the thin piece of wood jutting from the front of the ship. At the end is another ! Block. Hit it three times in quick succession. Jump from one platform block to the next until you're at the third one. Grab the Star Coin and jump back before the platform blocks disappear. You need to make sure you don't lose momentum between jumps otherwise you might not be able to gain enough momentum to reach the next block.
- 8Run right and hit the Checkpoint (an auto-save point you restart from on death) Flag (checkpoint). Continue right and enter the Warp Pipe at the end.
- 9You're up against Boom Boom in this boss battle. He functions as normal, but there are two separate parts of the room in this room. There is a purple square spikeboard in the centre of the room and a blue spikeboard that surrounds the purple one. These two spikeboards alternate in firing spikes out so you need to make sure you confine yourself to the safe part of the room. You always receive fair warning before the spikeboard fires, with the spikes showing slightly before they fire properly. If you're still on a spikeboard when it's in this state, get off straight away.
- 10When Boom Boom begins spinning, run away. Keep running away from him until he gets dizzy and stops spinning. At around the same time, the purple spikeboard will fire, so make sure you're not on it. Stomp Boom Boom then move onto the purple spikeboard after its spikes go down. Boom Boom will start bouncing off of the walls in his shell. He can stay on the spikes of the blue spikeboard until he falls off, at which point he's then confined to the purple spikeboard. You need to stay here until the spikes go down and because it's such a small space it can be much harder to dodge Boom Boom.
- 11Around the time that the blue spikeboard goes down, Boom Boom will stop bouncing around in his shell. If you time it right, you can stomp him in between the time that he gets up and the time that he begins spinning. If you don't get to stomp him before he begins spinning, wait and stomp him when he stops. He will bounce around in his shell after being stomped. Stomp him a third time and he will be defeated.
- 12Of course, as you're stomping him for the second and third times, make sure you're staying on the spikeboard that doesn't have the spikes protruding from it, or that's about to. Try and time Boom Boom's bouncing around the room in his shell with the protruding of the purple spikeboard. It's much easier to dodge Boom Boom when the purple spikeboard is up, in comparison to the blue one.
- 13Once defeated, Boom Boom will drop a number of coins. Grab them and enter the Warp Pipe at the northern edge of the room.
- 14You'll appear outside with a platform primarily made up of Donut Blocks to your right. Run across them to the small solid platform to your south-east and grab the Green Clock. When you grab it, the second boss battle begins, this time against Pom Pom.
- 15Dodge Pom Pom's boomerangs as you move towards her. When you get the chance, stomp her. She'll then retreat into her shell and float over you, slamming down into the ground a moment later. As long as you keep moving, you won't be damaged by her. You need to keep moving so that you don't drop down with a Donut Block and die anyway. After she does this a few times she will come back out of her shell and begin throwing boomerangs again. Stomp her once again and then dodge her shell attacks. When she comes back out of her shell for a final time, run over and stomp her. She'll be defeated.
Tips
- Attempting the first Star Coin without being Boomerang Mario is not recommended.
- When fighting Boom Boom, always pay attention to the spikeboard warnings to avoid taking damage.
- When fighting Pom Pom, continuous movement is key to avoiding her attacks and falling through Donut Blocks.
