    Start by running and grabbing the Star Coin, then move to the line of Donut Blocks. Jump over the gaps between them until you reach the pole and grab on.

World 8-3 Walkthrough:

  1. Move north and stomp the Rocky Wrench. Run onto the path of rotating objects, dodging wrenches. Stay in the center of the path.
  2. Jump to the next rotating object. Ignore the fake Warp Pipe. Continue dodging wrenches and jump to the platform at the end. Ignore the second fake Warp Pipe.
  3. Star Coin #1: You need to be Tanooki Mario. Use the crank on the boat to raise it. Jump from the back right corner onto the opposite platform, grab the Star Coin and coins. Jump from the second platform's right corner to the large platform below. You can hit the Large ? Block for coins.
  4. Alternatively, without Tanooki Mario: Jump to the rotating block with three brick blocks above it. Hit the left brick for a coin. Move right to correct position as the block rotates. When the block you're on and the one to your right stop (yellow part up), jump to the right block. Hit the Large ? Block repeatedly for coins. Jump onto the Large ? Block, then jump off the left edge and wall jump off the wall to land on the platform to the north. Grab coins, then move to the platform to your left to collect the Star Coin. Return to the right platform and jump down.
  5. Stomp the Rocky Wrench on the current platform and jump onto the massive rotating block to the north. Stay in the middle, changing faces as the block rotates. Stomping the fake 1-Up here reveals a real one. Continue to the end and jump off.
  6. Hit the Checkpoint Flag and go through the red ring. Jump across rotating blocks, collecting red coins and dodging wrenches. Grab the 1-Up (or Tanooki Leaf) and jump to the platform north.
  7. Star Coin #2: From the north platform, jump back onto the previous rotating block. Jump to the block west, then the block south-west. Collect the Star Coin on this block, waiting for it to rotate if necessary and dodging wrenches. Return to the north platform.
  8. Push the green shells north to hit Rocky Wrenches. Hit the middle shell first, then the sides. If you miss, stomp the wrenches. Jump onto the rotating cylinders to the north.
  9. Jump across the cylinders, correcting your position to stay in the center.
