Save or Leave Mayor Julius

Alright, so you're at a pretty big choice here in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, during the main quest 'Shadow’s Crossing'. You've found Mayor Julius, but he's in a real bind with a dragon breathing down his neck. Turns out, he let the Blight infect his town because the Elven Gods told him to. He's super upset about it, and now it's up to you to decide if he lives or dies.

Before we get to the choice itself, you'll have a short mission to find some missing Veil Jumpers. Basically, you'll need to find the villagers, check out the town square, look for any surviving Veil Jumpers, and then find one specific survivor.

The Choice: Save Mayor Julius or Leave Him to Die

This is where it gets tough. You've got Mayor Julius trapped, a dragon is right there, and you know he basically let his town get Blighted. It’s a heavy decision, and how you handle it has some ripple effects.

If You Save Mayor Julius

Saving the Mayor means he gets to live with the consequences of his actions. The big immediate payoff here is that you'll gain approval from Neve. However, Bellara won't be happy about it. After this, you'll continue your journey, letting the Veil Jumpers know what happened to the folks in D’Meta’s Crossing.

If You Leave Mayor Julius to Die

Choosing to leave Mayor Julius to the Blight and the dragon has its own set of rewards. First off, you'll earn Bellara’s approval. More significantly, this choice unlocks a special side quest called 'A Growing Corruption'. This quest kicks off in the Arlathan Forest during Act 2. You'll start it by finding one of three blights in the area. The quest involves investigating attacks and eventually fighting a boss that might look familiar.

That boss? It's Mayor Julius himself. He doesn't actually die; instead, he becomes Blighted and attacks the Arlathan Forest as the 'Blighted Mayor'. Taking him down completes the quest and strengthens your bond with the Grey Wardens and Veil Jumpers. So, if you're looking for more content and a bit of a unique boss fight, leaving the Mayor to his fate is the way to go, even if your character is usually the forgiving type.

A quick note from a player: There's actually a third option if you're playing as a Grey Warden. You can release the Mayor and send him to the Grey Wardens to fight the Blight as his redemption. If you do this, he'll show up later in the 'Lives Spared' mission in the Hossberg Wetlands.
