Find all 17 regular chests and unique chests in Dragon Age: The Veilguard's Necropolis Halls. Includes walkthroughs for puzzles, wisp locations, and required companions.

This guide details the locations of all 17 regular chests and unique chests within the Necropolis Halls in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Some chests require specific companion abilities or returning later in the game when new quests open up more of the map.

Regular Chests

There are a total of 17 regular chests to find in Necropolis Halls. Some require returning later with new quests to access more of the map.

Regular Chest 1 - Vault of the Beloved

Found during the first exploration of Necropolis Halls, just past the door where you gather four wisps for the main story quest “Where the Dead Must Go”. The chest is in the right corner next to the brazier immediately after opening the door.

Regular Chest 2 - The Path of Sighs

During the “Where the Dead Must Go” main story quest, after defeating the Graverobbers in The Path of Sighs, head north towards the red barrier. The chest is located to the left of the barrier.

Regular Chest 3 - Hollow Belfry, Lower

In the area where Emmrich rings the bell at the end of the “Where the Dead Must Go” story quest. After surviving the demon attack, go to the northeast corner of the room to find the chest against the wall.

Regular Chest 4 - Cascades

Requires unlocking the companion Taash.

This chest is behind an iron gate on the west side of the Cascades. To open the gate, you need to find a wisp by completing a puzzle in The Spectral Court. Interact with the coffin in The Spectral Court; a wisp will appear and move between braziers. Light the braziers in the order the wisp jumps. After the puzzle, interact with the coffin again to get a Memento and the wisp. Take the wisp south to the Cascades and place it on the pedestal to open the gate. The chest is at the back of the room.

Regular Chest 5 and 6 - The Path of Sighs 2

Requires Davrin to access this chest.

From The Path of Sighs Beacon, use Harding’s power on the block to the west, climb up, and continue west to find a coffin. Interacting with the coffin starts a 1:45 minute puzzle to collect five skeleton parts and return them to the coffin. Look for purple lights/torches to find the parts:

  • Skull: At the base of the green statue opposite the coffin.
  • Humerus: In the northern room, behind the iron fence to the left of the entrance.
  • Tibia: In the same northern room, climb the stairs north and then a small ledge in the northwest corner.
  • Ribcage: South from the Tibia, on the floor next to some pots.
  • Femur: Go back to the top of the stairs, head to the southwest wall, and find a ledge leading into a hole in the wall.

Once all parts are collected, return them to the coffin to obtain a wisp. Go back into the northern room and place the wisp on the pedestal on the east side. Inside, you will find two chests and a Memento.

Regular Chest 7 - The Memorial Gardens

Requires completing the Walking the Graves companion (Emmrich) quest.

During the “Walking the Graves” quest in The Memorial Gardens, after helping Emmrich, head northwest towards the Beacon. You will find an illusory door that transports you to a platform above, where the chest is located to your left.

Regular Chest 8 - The Memorial Gardens 2

Requires completing the Walking the Graves companion (Emmrich) quest. Emmrich must be in the party.

Return to the location of the illusory door near the Beacon. Behind where it was, find an obscure bell with golden energy. Use Emmrich’s power on it to start a puzzle. Follow the wisp to other bells and activate them in the same sequence. Glyphs on a nearby door can help match the sequence to the bells.
