Follow our guide to complete the Spinning Gold from Grey side quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Learn how to defeat mercenary groups and secure your rewards.
Alright, so you've finished the main quest 'Fire and Ice' and you're back in the Hossberg Wetlands. Warden Sawyer, chilling just outside Grey Hold in Lavendel, is going to tell you that some greedy mercenaries are trying to loot The Cauldron. Apparently, they don't care about darkspawn or the blight. Since we know what's in The Cauldron, Rook decides it's a good idea to go teach these mercs a lesson.
After completing “Fire and Ice”, return to the Hossberg Wetlands and talk to Warden Sawyer to start this quest.
To kick things off, you'll want to head to the Castle Grounds, way southwest of Lavendel. If you've already been there and activated the Castle Grounds Beacon, just fast travel there. It'll save you a ton of walking.
Once you arrive at the beacon, you'll immediately run into three mercenary groups. You need to take them all out to finish the quest. The first group is southeast of the beacon, near a small dock. They've got a few Greater Mercenaries guarding a boat. These guys are pretty straightforward melee fighters, mostly using a two-part attack: one you can block, and one you can't. Just a heads-up, all the mercenaries in this quest are weak to lightning but resist fire.
After you've dealt with the southeastern group, head back up to the beacon and go northwest. Upstairs, you'll find the second group. This bunch also has mostly Greater Mercenaries, but they've thrown in a Greater Assassin to make things a bit more interesting. This assassin is quick with dual daggers, but honestly, they aren't much more dangerous than the others.
Once you've cleared out the second group, look for a ladder to your left (southwest). Climb it to get inside the castle. This is where the main mercenary force is holed up. You'll face more Greater Mercenaries, another Greater Assassin, three Greater Mages chilling in the back, and a Wary Mercenary who's apparently the captain. Those Greater Mages will blast you with firebolts from a distance if you let them, so it's a smart move to ignore the melee guys for a bit and focus on taking down the mages first. The Wary Mercenary? It's basically just a tougher Greater Mercenary with more health, so don't stress too much about it.
After you've defeated this final group, fast travel back to Lavendel and let Warden Sawyer know you handled the situation. You'll get your reward: 500 EXP, 200 Gold, 5x Fade-Touched Ore, +100 Grey Wardens Strength, and +100 Lords of Fortune Strength.
