Master Unreal Tournament's Gun Control objective with tactical tips, including exploiting the 'flag shot' bug for an easier win.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
    Objective 3: Gun Control
    1. This is the most difficult part of the AS maps on higher difficulties. Defenders are positioned high up with sniper rifles or rocket-launchers.
  2. 2
Option 1: Team Luck Hope a teammate gets through by chance; bots should have similar skills.
  3. 3
Option 2: Coordinated Advance Run behind a teammate, firing rockets in spread formation. As you reach the cavern entrance, your rockets should be ready to launch your teammate forward towards the objective.
  4. 4
Option 3: Hammer-Jump and Sniping Grab armor and pads in the tunnels. Hammer-jump up the sloped cliff to the right of the tunnel exit into the cavern. From this high platform with a sniper rifle, you can either run to the final room or sneak into the teleporter for more armor in the left tower. Avoid the Boiler Room teleporter.
  5. 5
Option 4: Exploit 'Flag Shot' Bug This bug is illegal online but allowed in ladders. Gather the sniper rifle and body armor from the Boiler Room, and thigh pads from the tunnel. Go to the next curve in the tunnel where other armor is located. Have your entire team hold position here, with one taking the armor. When ready, order them to attack the base. Load a fully charged hammer-jump. As they are engaged at the tunnel exit, run behind them and hammer-jump to the top of the door surround. Quickly equip your sniper rifle. Move to the right end and aim at the gun emplacement at the far end of the cavern. Look for two blue banners hanging from the wall facing you. The one on the left is partially obscured by the big gun. Underneath the gun, between it and the upper platform edge, you will see a triangle of blue cloth. Shoot this, preferably with the sniper rifle (though minigun and rockets also work).
  6. 6
This same spot can be hit from other locations, such as beside or underneath the second high lamp-post (using a flak cannon). You can also hit the correct area of the blue flag by standing with your back against the door surround, just to the right of the tunnel exit. Jump and fire while looking through the scope. This is easier and safer than the first method; practice it. Rockets can also be used from here, but they are more likely to hit the gun or platform.
  • Defense Strategy
    1. Objective 1: Beach-Head Attackers struggle to reach the Beach-Head due to mortar shells, turrets, and your teammates. You can defend from any position. After the Beach-Head is taken, your team moves to the Boiler Room; you can order them to hold the left sniper tower to defend the beach pressure yourself.
    2. Objective 2: Boiler Room Defending the Boiler Room is easy. Attackers face mortar shells and turret rounds, then encounter your flak, rockets, and teammates' camping tactics in the tunnels. In GOTY (Game of the Year edition), bots group up and attack as a team, wasting time as trailing bots are picked off by mortars or your sniping. You can exploit their AI to hold them off indefinitely.
    3. Objective 3: Gun Control Once attackers capture the Boiler Room, they spawn there but must traverse miles of tunnel, which you can spam with rockets or flak. Take their armor. They follow a strict path to the final objective room, and you can prevent any from passing by monitoring them. For a better sniping position in the gun cavern, hammer-jump to the roof of the Gun Control room for cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects).
  • Miscellaneous Tactics
    1. You cannot use the impact hammer's secondary fire to deflect mortar shells.
    2. A hammer-launch at the barbed wire can fire teammates over foxholes onto the beach, provided they run into your hammer. Surviving long is difficult.
    3. You can dodge up foxholes instead of using alt-hammer. This dodge is common in instagib matches where the hammer is unavailable. Side-dodge up the foxhole wall from as close as possible, aiming to inch onto the window ledge. This is difficult but saves health lost from alt-hammering.
    4. If defending inside foxholes, be aware that the minigun turret can harm you if you are in front of its guns, as it seems to have friendly fire enabled.
  • Tips
    • For the 'flag shot' bug, practice jumping and firing through the scope from the door surround for a safer and easier method.
    • When defending the Boiler Room in GOTY, exploit the AI of grouped-up bots to hold them off indefinitely.
    • Consider hammer-jumping to the roof of the Gun Control room for a superior sniping vantage point with cover.
    • Use the side-dodge maneuver up foxholes in instagib matches when the hammer is not available.
