Learn the advanced technique of hammer-launching in Unreal Tournament. Discover how to propel teammates across maps for strategic advantages in Assault and DM modes.
Walkthrough
- 1Perform a Hammer-Launch: Aim your impact hammer at the desired destination for your teammate. Click the alt-fire button once (do not hold it down).
- 2Charge the Launch: Immediately after setting the aim with alt-fire, press and hold the primary-fire button. The hammer will begin charging.
- 3Teammate Interaction: A teammate can then walk, jump, or dodge into the charged hammer to be launched.
- 4Launch Distance/Height: The longer the hammer is charged (up to a few seconds), the farther or higher the teammate will be launched.
- 5Aiming is Key: The direction of the alt-fire aim almost completely determines the launch direction.
- 6Myth Busting: A single alt-fire click is sufficient; multiple clicks or holding alt-fire do not affect distance.
- 7Double/Triple Launches: Teammates can arrange themselves to hit multiple hammers sequentially for even greater distances.
- 8Movement Matters: Jumps are generally for height, dodges (especially side-dodges) for distance, and walking is situational.
- 9Hammer-Jumping Integration: A teammate hammer-jumping into charged hammers can achieve even greater distances or heights.
- 10Single Player Note: Hammer-launching is generally ineffective against bots as they cannot be instructed to jump or dodge into the hammer.
- 11Combined Technique: To increase efficiency, you can set a hammer-launch (single alt-fire), then charge it by holding your hammer-jump bind. This allows you to use the charged hammer for launching, hammer-jumping, or attacking an enemy, depending on the situation.
Tips
- Listen for a grunt of pain to confirm a successful hammer-jump; no grunt means no jump.
- Hammer-launching has unique applications with your own translocator.
- The Enforcer (pistol) is your default weapon, capable of dual-wielding. It's accurate for single shots and effective against low-health targets.
- When countering an Enforcer, move unpredictably and use weapons that outrange and out-damage it.
