Explore Unreal Tournament's unique bugs and glitches, from the Skating bug to the Team spec bug. Learn how to exploit them for an edge in single-player and multiplayer.

This section covers miscellaneous bugs and glitches in Unreal Tournament that don't fit into other categories but can be useful or interesting to know.

Keys & Binds: Proper keybinds are crucial for fluid gameplay in Unreal Tournament. Players often favor the WASD combination for movement, common in FPS games. It's recommended to keep keys close together and accessible for quick actions. Efficient keybinds give an advantage over players fumbling with inputs.

Xan Skin: You can use the Xan robot skin and voice without defeating Xan in the ladder. Modify your user.ini file by changing [Botpack.Ladder] HasBeatenGame=False to [Botpack.Ladder] HasBeatenGame=True. The skin will then be available in Options > Player Setup.

Open Tournament Ladder: To fight Xan Kriegor without completing the entire tournament ladder, edit your user.ini. Locate the [UTMenu.SlotWindow] section. Copy and paste a save line, adjusting the number in brackets and [YourName], to resume a saved tournament with all maps unlocked.

Disconnect/Reconnect Bind: Using a bind like [key]=disconnect | onrelease reconnect allows you to disconnect and reconnect to a single-player ladder round. The game won't spawn bots, and the round won't start automatically. Restarting a ladder round manually through the menus is required.

Skating Bug: When a bot is hit while dodging, they may enter an animation glitch where they skate in a straight line, unable to return fire or recover. They are vulnerable during this state. Bots rarely dodge outside of combat unless mods are used.

Strafing Bug: Strafing while pressing too many keys simultaneously can cause you to continue moving sideways even after releasing movement keys. Pressing the appropriate strafe key again resolves this.

Team Change Bug: After giving bot teammates orders, they will follow them until changed. You can switch to the opposing team, command them to a corner, then switch back to your original team, making the map easier to complete.

Team Change Bug (Assault Ladder): Start an Assault ladder round on the attacking team. Attempt to change teams via the Player Setup menu. After your team completes the first round, the second round begins with you on the other team, now attacking. This allows for two attacks, but the second must be faster than the first.

Team Spec Bug (1): Pick up and hold a sniper rifle, then press F5 to view a teammate. You can zoom in using the right mouse button.

Team Spec Bug (2): Collect a bio rifle, load slime, and face a wall. Press F5 to view a teammate, then release the right mouse button to kill yourself with slime. When you die, the scoreboard appears, but your view doesn't switch back. Press F1 to remove the scoreboard, then left-click to switch to another teammate to view them in first-person mode.

Torture Chamber: At the UT logo screen, press suicide. This is not necessarily a bug but can be a fun, albeit dark, feature.

Wall Bug: This texture bug occurs on some vertical walls when a player falls while touching or hugging the wall. It can slow or stop the player, preventing fall damage. Useful examples are in CTF-November and CTF-LavaGiant. This bug may not appear with HD textures that replace the default pack.
