Unreal Tournament Part 62 covers defense strategies and the CTF-LAVAGIANT map, including powerup locations and attack routes.
- 1To return to previous areas, face the tubes and forward-dodge diagonally towards them. This allows you to bump against the ceiling obstruction just before touching the floor, enabling you to squeeze through gaps you couldn't before.
- 2Drop down one of the tubes, ideally onto the body armour, and run to your base.
- 3On CTF-LAVAGIANT, enemy bots cannot reach the beams and ledges above the red flag room. Take the blue flag up there and use your Translocator (T/L) to teleport away, preventing the enemy from recapturing it.
Defense Strategies:
- Your base on this map is larger than the New Zealand (NZ) base, requiring you to defend from around your own flag.
- The shock rifle is ideal for defense, though its ammo is located in the NZ. Rockets are also plentiful by your flag, and health packs offer sustained defense.
- Consider teleporting (T/Ling) up to ceiling rafters and preparing a shock-combo (a charged shot from the shock rifle) for invaders.
- Alternatively, defend from your armour room, shooting into the NZ with a shock rifle. This position offers proximity to health, armour, and the belt in the ceiling.
- For more action, defend around the bottom of the ramp in the enemy base.
- If the flag carrier (FC) evades you and is heading home, use the ceiling holes for a last-ditch defense. Instead of chasing them through the enemy base, teleport through the ceiling and intercept them as they approach their own flag.
Miscellaneous Tips:
- Use the ripper to send encroaching enemies into the slime.
- If you acquire the UDamage on your way to the enemy base, your minigun becomes highly effective. Combining UDamage with a shield-belt makes you a formidable flag-capturing force.
- When performing a one-way tubing (teleporting to a location without an immediate return path), place your T/L in the enemy spawn room after teleporting there and before going for the flag. Upon capturing the flag, you can activate your T/L for a quick return, potentially securing another cap immediately after.
CTF-LAVAGIANT Map Details:
This map features an extremely low orbit around a superdense gas giant, causing intense gravitational forces. Players are equipped with special gravbelts.
Teams: 5v5
Powerups / Armour Locations:
- Thigh Pads: In the middle of the neutral zone, in the brick corridor past the redeemer stepping stones.
- Body Armour (2): One located in each base.
- Shield-belt: Found under an arch in the center of the map.
- Keg O' Health: On a hidden platform under the high side route past the rocket-launcher.
- UDamage: In the middle of the neutral zone, on a hidden platform under the high side route past the rocket-launcher.
- Jump Boots (2): One located in each base.
Attack Strategy (CTF-LAVAGIANT):
Attacking on CTF-LAVAGIANT is difficult, especially at higher difficulties (Masterful and above), often requiring strategic play and luck. The map is very sniper-friendly, with enemies often having two snipers in their base even when the entire team is on defense.
- Route Avoiding Snipers:
- Grab armour and boots, then jump to the roof of your base.
- Place your T/L on the highest point of the roof. Crouch behind or under it and use the hammer (a weapon) to launch your T/L to the top of the large rock barrier separating the map halves.
- Activate your T/L to appear on top of the barrier. From here, hammer-launch your T/L to land on the bridge in the enemy base or the pointed roof above the flag.
- Activate your T/L again to appear in the enemy base. Grab the flag while charging a hammer-jump.
- Backwards hammer-jump out of the enemy base, using the boots for extra height and distance. Use the boots' air control to swerve away from the sniper nest windows.
- Drop to a lower route and run home, staying out of sight of enemy snipers. Plan your escape route carefully and stick to it.
- Alternative Approach (Cliff Edge):
- Pick up boots and then get the shield-belt (this can be dangerous due to enemy fire).
- Drop low and run up the right side of the enemy base, near the cliff edge.
- Just before reaching the top of the ramp, perform a boot-hammer-jump to leap over the walls and onto the enemy flag.
- While in the air, charge another hammer-jump and release it as soon as you touch the flag to jump back out.
- Use the boots' air control to land back on the ramp and sprint away.
- Entrance Approach:
- Stand at the back of the enemy base, near the entrance (which is usually unguarded).
- Throw your T/L onto the pyramid structure above you.
- From this position, you can load rockets and take out the two snipers.
- The enemy bots struggle to reach the high beams and ledges above the red flag room. Use this to your advantage by taking the blue flag up there and teleporting away to prevent recapture.
- The shock rifle is excellent for defense, even though its ammo is in the NZ.
- Consider teleporting to rafters and using a shock-combo on invaders.
- Defending from your armour room, shooting into the NZ with a shock rifle, offers a safe and advantageous position near vital resources.
- Defending near the bottom of the ramp in the enemy base can be very exciting and fun.
- Use ceiling holes for last-ditch defenses to intercept flag carriers.
- The ripper weapon is effective for pushing enemies into the slime.
- UDamage combined with a shield-belt makes you a powerful offensive force.
- When performing a one-way T/L capture, place your T/L in the enemy spawn room before going for the flag to ensure a quick escape and potential follow-up cap.
- On CTF-LAVAGIANT, attack routes that avoid snipers are crucial.
- The combination of boots and hammer-jumps is essential for advanced movement and flag captures.
- Utilize the cliff edge route for a quick flag grab and escape.
- The entrance of the enemy base can be a less guarded point of entry.
