Unreal Tournament Part 65 Orbital Station CTF guide. Learn the best attack and defense strategies, including translocator placement and power-up locations.
Walkthrough
- 1Attack Strategy: Utilize your translocator (T/L) extensively on this large map. Due to the low ceiling, throwing it ahead of you is more effective than launching it. Aim to throw your T/L into the enemy's bunker, near the sniper nest, to collect vials and easily access the hole in the wall after dropping down the lift. This bunker area is generally less contested by bots, allowing you to conserve health before pushing for the blue flag. The hole in the wall serves as an excellent entry point, allowing your T/L to land near the Body Armour, with vials and health packs also available. While bots will pass through, they typically do not camp here, providing a brief respite. Avoid attacking through the right main door as it's a longer route to the same area.
- 2Best Route: Attacking and retreating via the Body Armour and Pulse Rifle spawn is recommended due to more escape routes and cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects) on the way back. This route also allows you to T/L up to the minigun platform above the Shield-belt for advanced maneuvers, which is not possible from the other side.
- 3Left Entrance Attack: If attacking via the left main entrance, you can T/L to vials and the rocket-launcher. While bots can also T/L here, rockets are less effective for attacking the flag room due to the open space and lack of z-axis angle. If retreating with the flag via this route, use spreads of two or three rockets ahead of you at corners to clear pursuing bots.
- 4Flag Capture and Retreat: After capturing the flag, retreat past the Body Armour, holding your hammer. Perform a hammer-jump through the hole in the wall (face straight down for maximum height) and run into the sniper nest for cover. If you've instructed your teammates to attack, cover you, or hold position around the bunker, they should be nearby to assist. If you are killed and drop the flag, a teammate should pick it up. Defenders will likely ascend the lift to pursue you into the bunker, so be prepared with grenades or slime.
- 5Pre-Attack Preparation: If possible, collect the Shield-belt in your base before attacking the blue flag, as it significantly aids in the hammer-jump through the hole. Starting with 100 health, you can collect up to 85 additional health points from 17 vials in your base, effectively acting like a keg.
- 6Translocator Placement: Consistently drop your translocator (T/L) in the enemy base with each incursion. Good spots include the high boxes in the armour room or the platform with six vials, to minimize travel time across the large map.
- 7Defense Strategy: In single-player CTF, the initial enemy attack is the most dangerous. Subsequent attacks are often uncoordinated. While bots are adept at defending the blue base, they are no better than your teammates at defending the red base. If two or three blue bots can hold off your team, then two or three of your teammates can deter the entire blue team from your flag. Your teammates are capable of reaching the Shield-belt, and it's difficult for blue bots to escape your base alive. Since your team is unlikely to successfully capture the blue flag, you should lead the attack, leaving half your team on defense.
- 8Sniper Nest Defense: If defending, utilize the sniper nest. Bots struggle to hit you through the window as they need to collect the sniper rifle. They tend to avoid their own sniper nest, meaning their best option against you is the minigun. Their predictable movement patterns, similar to Facing Worlds, make headshots easy.
- 9Defensive Translocator: Always leave your T/L somewhere around the blue base. This allows you to quickly pursue an enemy who manages to escape with your flag, giving you a head start.
- 10Miscellaneous T/L Tricks: When entering the blue base via the left door, stand at the two shock ammo packs, jump forward, and hurl your T/L at the correct angle to land on the high rocket-launcher. This bypasses ground-level conflict, providing a weapon, vantage point, and temporary hiding spot.
- 11Pulse Rifle Entrance T/L: When attacking via the pulse rifle entrance, you can throw your T/L at the flag and activate it after running, but bots may destroy it. Instead, try throwing it onto the minigun platform to potentially steal their Shield-belt.
- 12Hole in the Wall T/L: Practice throwing your T/L through the hole in the front wall of the blue base so it lands on the Body Armour, allowing you to steal it from nearby bots.
- 13Bridge T/L: You can launch your T/L from the end of the left bridge into the hole in the wall using the impact hammer or secondary ripper.
Tips
- Always throw your T/L into the enemy's bunker to collect vials and get an easy throw into the hole in the wall.
- The hole in the wall is your best point of entry into the enemy base.
- Attacking and retreating via the Body Armour and Pulse Rifle spawn offers more escape opportunities and cover.
- If you have the flag, retreat past the Body Armour and perform a hammer-jump through the hole in the wall.
- Collect the Shield-belt in your base before launching an attack on the blue flag.
- Drop your translocator in the enemy base with each incursion to cut down travel time.
- When defending, use the sniper nest as bots are not good at hitting you through the window.
- Leave your T/L somewhere around the blue base to quickly pursue flag carriers.
- Experiment with T/L placements for advanced maneuvers and shortcuts.
